About me

I specialise in detecting the cause of current problems and facilitate a way forward to process these issues in order to move forward with much improved quality of life. This approach is particularly helpful in dealing with anxiety. Anxiety is often twinned with depression and it is sometimes difficult to know which came first.

Anxiety, depression and other issues can mask unprocessed emotions, generally linked to incident/s that are traumatising to the individual, small trauma or large Trauma. I work on these issues, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, small traumas and large Traumas to resolve these feelings and find a way forward.

Are you undergoing the same type of issues again and again through your life?

I have been working in mental health since 1995, and have been providing psychotherapy to private clients since 2004. I continue to work within psychiatry in the NHS.

My service helps you to live in the present and to look forward to the future whilst at the same time dealing with past issues. Using cognitive, behavioural, interpersonal and neural techniques, I will work with you to remove the emotional distress from traumas and phobias and we will work together on replacing these negative issues in your life with a positive focus and creative use of your natural resources.

Often people with current anxieties, depression, lack of self confidence or ongoing pain, are suffering from the effects of past traumas that a part of their emotional brain and their body may be clinging on to. These symptoms can be treated to clear symptoms and improve quality of life. I use CBT, Human Givens, EMDR and Sandtray work.

Cognitive Behavioural work involves exploring the relationship between thought processes, emotions, behaviour, physical feelings and the environment and relieving distress by changing one or more of these factors.

EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing, involves reprocessing negative material that is locked into the brain and adapting it with positive processing, resulting in an improved state and increased self confidence.

Human Givens therapy works with people to relieve emotional distress, to enable them to feel mentally strong, able to set goals, alter expectations and realise desired outcomes.

My service helps you to live in the present and to look forward to the future whilst at the same time dealing with past issues. Using the above techniques, I will work with you to remove emotional distress and we will work together on replacing these negative issues in your life with a positive focus and creative use of your natural resources.

The brain puts an emotional tag onto things that happen to us, this can be positive or negative. For example if you think of a situation when you were extremely happy and really allow yourself to wallow in that moment, chances are that you will smile and these thoughts will induce a positive feeling in you, this is something worth hanging onto. However if you think back to an unhappy or frightening experience this may also change your state of being, this time to a more negative state and it may be more beneficial to eradicate this feeling.

The emotional tag can be removed by moving this memory from one part of the brain, the amygdala, to another more logical part of the brain, the frontal cortex. This process helps you to leave the pain of the past behind and to move on with your life.

Together we look at what changes you want or need and examine your lifestyle and any patterns you may have that could be contributing to your problems or dilemma. We look at trigger situations for issues and the way your thoughts, emotions and behaviour are interlinked and together we set new patterns into your neural pathways to effect positive change.

I approach each person as a unique individual and I focus therapy on enhancing people's strengths and developing their natural resources for sustainable change.

Testimonials

"Therapy is something very difficult to face. Angela could not be more accommodating, welcoming and encouraging. There were many days that I never saw the light in my life and I started to believe I never would. With Angela's patience and kindness and my tenacity I have come so far. I could never express in words how grateful I am for the help Angela provided.
I went from being terrified and insecure to reassured and back to being able to face anything the world had to drop on me.

I have told her on more than one occasion that I think she’s magic, because the techniques she uses bring a feeling of calm and when I began to feel distressed or uncomfortable. It’s a peaceful place to be.

I never felt judged, I always felt heard. I could not recommend her services enough.

Jerry stated that the sessions with Angela had turned his life around and highly recommends Angela as a therapist."

Linda wrote:

“Thank you Angela, I now have a life, a wonderful life. I no longer fear everything daily. I wake up to a new day, without worrying and without fearing the worst. Having lived with anxiety and depression for over 20 years, and truly believing that that was my lot, it is amazing to not have the shadow of depression following me around. I have my life now, it’s guilt free, worry free and fear free. My past is just that, my past and it no longer controls who I am today. I’ve started work now, I’m playing the piano again, I’m drawing and reading. For me it’s been life changing, and i cannot thank Angela enough.”

Mary wrote:

"The sessions with Angela are always constructive, interesting and mostly enjoyable. She is aware of the need for a safe situation when working through one’s difficulties and provides this. The EMDR was surprisingly effective for me and with other interventions has achieved a situation where I can enjoy life and it’s challenges again."

Jane wrote:

"Thank you very much Angela the sessions helped me cope with my anxiety. I was in the midst of a breakdown and you helped me change my way of thinking so I could rebalance my life."

Michael stated that his thinking was clearer after one session than it had been for 2 years.
