About me

I am a BACP Accredited Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist with over 30 years experience. I also provide supervision and training to other therapists and am a Senior Accredited Supervisor of Individuals.

I offer private counselling and psychotherapy at my home garden office in Mile End, Colchester. There is parking outside and I am also only a few minutes from the main rail station and on an easy bus route.

Considering Counselling can often be a daunting experience and I am happy to have an informal discussion over the phone with anyone interested, but feeling unsure.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and have been practicing for 29 years. I have worked in general practice, private practice and in education.
As well as my private practice I am currently the senior counsellor in a local college, where I have worked for over 20 years.
I am also a qualified teacher and have worked as a Counselling Trainer for over 20 years and as a Supervisor for 16 years.
I am also an experienced telephone counsellor and offer e-counselling services.
In 2007 I set up Person-Centred Workshops which offers continuing professional development activities to other therapists and Supervision Training.
I also completed a Masters degree in Focusing and Experiential Psychotherapy at the University of East Anglia in 2008.
I am also qualified as a "Counselling for Depression" (CfD) supervisor so I am able to work with counsellors using this approach, both in training and once qualified.
My formal qualifications are:
MA, B.Ed (Hons), Diploma Counselling (BACP Accredited Training), Certificate Supervision.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
