About me

I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor and Supervisor in the Hull and East Riding area. I offer a holistic and down to earth approach in dealing with the many challenges that life brings.

I feel it's important to work with the whole person and all that they bring.....emotionally, physically, spiritually, as well as taking into account lifestyle choices, since I believe that these factors influence how we think and feel thus impacting our lives and our relationships. As a Buddhist practitioner I am interested in helping people to work through any problems and anxieties and to find meaning and purpose in their lives. I also offer mindfulness based exercises and relaxation techniques along with other effective coping strategies for those experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety.

I have worked in both private practise and the voluntary sector for more than 25 years providing counselling and psychotherapy for clients with a wide range of issues. I also have 15 years experience as a clinical supervisor working with qualified therapists and offering consultative support for professionals from various disciplines. During the last 10 years a large proportion of my work has been school based, working within both mainstream and independent educational settings. This has given me extensive knowledge and understanding of young peoples issues which aids my work as a supervisor to therapists working in school settings.

I offer both short and long-term therapy so that clients are able to work at their own chosen pace, and I am happy to arrange courses of therapy to suit clients personal, practical and financial needs. I am a registered, senior accredited practitioner and work strictly to the BACP code of ethics.

Having experienced the benefits of counselling myself, I believe that despite how difficult or painful it may feel at times, it can also be extremely rewarding and enriching; in my experience clients laugh as much as they cry in the therapy process. Most importantly therapy gives us the space and time to attend to our emotional needs and offers us the chance to explore and possibly change the things in our lives that we are not happy with.

The things that matter to me personally in life are; love, honesty, wisdom, compassion, respect, equality and freedom of choice. I also believe in plain-speaking and tend to talk about things in a fairly straightforward way. So if you feel unsure or wish to know more then give me a call; perhaps together we can find a way of exploring the things that matter to you in life.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I offer creative forms of therapy to individuals who prefer a more physically expressive way of working on their issues. This might involve the use of art-work, movement /role play, dream work, mindfulness and relaxation techniques. Often clients will choose to bring something meaningful such as photographs, music, poetry or other personal memorabilia to help them express particular feelings and emotions in relation to difficulties that they are facing in their lives.

I work from home in a quiet location close to local transport links and local amenities. My therapy room has been created to provide a calm, peaceful environment in which clients and supervisee's alike are invited to slow the pace, relax and 'be themselves'.
