David Keenan MBACP (Accred)
Please note that due to the ongoing situation regarding Coronavirus I have suspended all face to face work in an effort to help stop the spread of the virus. However, the current lockdown is causing a lot of people to experience increased anxiety and a sense of isolation. If you do require therapy at this time, I am offering remote sessions either via telephone or video call using Zoom. If you would like to arrange therapy please contact me.
I have over 20 years experience as a therapist having qualified in 1998. I qualified as a casework supervisor in 2001. Since that time I have also undertaken much additional training. I work in an integrative manner, using different approaches to benefit your own individual needs. I work with a wide diversity of clients and issues and alongside this I also specialise in working with difference in gender and sexuality. I believe it is important to work hard to quickly establish a sound therapeutic relationship to enable you to develop trust not only in me as your counsellor, but also in the counselling process. Because of this, I meet with you first for a one-off 'Introductory Session'. This gives you an opportunity to tell me about yourself and what you are hoping to gain from counselling. Together, we will decide what is the best way for us to work together to achieve your goals.
I work from home and am based in Fallowfield, about 2 miles south of Manchester city centre with easy road links from the city centre, M60/M56 and surrounding areas. There are also regular bus services to/from: Manchester city centre, Altrincham, Chorlton, Didsbury, Levenshulme, Longsight, Sale, Stockport & Wythenshawe. Both Burton Road tram stop and Mauldeth Road rail station are approximately one mile away. Because I work from home I do not publish my address on here but, once we have agreed a first appointment I will give you all the information that you need to get to me.
I will consider making home visits as long as certain conditions can be agreed such as privacy and a guarantee of no interruptions, and my fee will reflect additional travelling time/cost.
I also facilitate bespoke training workshops to a variety of providers and trainees. Recent workshops/seminars have been delivered to voluntary based counselling services, the NHS and local universities. I have also taught Diploma/Masters level trainee counsellors at local colleges and universities.

I am an Accredited Member of the BACP and am also listed on the BACP Register of Practitioners
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I have much experience of working with people from all backgrounds of society and with a wide variety of issues. Because of this I am able to work with a diverse range of issues, if you would like to discuss your needs from counselling, or check out my experience, please contact me. I have undertaken much additional training and have a wide experience of working with difference with gender, sexuality and relationships - sexual orientation (i.e. gay, lesbian and bisexual and other alternative sexualities), cross dressers, the trans community, Kink/BDSM etc. I work with people from all sexual and gender orientations to help them accept and embrace their difference.
I do not operate a fixed fee as this does not fit with my personal philosophy of fairness, rather I prefer to negotiate a fee that reflects your income but would usually anticipate something in the area of £50-£80. I am willing to negotiate reduced fees for people on low income/benefits. I would expect fees for home visits to including travelling time/cost and so would be looking at somewhere around £100.
I also have a flat-rate fee of £40 for an Introductory Session.
Why not call or email to arrange an Introductory Session? We can discuss what you are looking to gain from counselling and how I can best help you to achieve your aims. Either email by clicking on the link, or call me on 07887 564127.
