About me

I am a qualified counsellor, coach and mediator with over 25 years experience and have a private practice in Abingdon, Oxfordshire

I offer short-term counselling for couples and individuals who have specific problems they want to deal with, or open-ended psychotherapy which may be more suitable for someone who has longer-term difficulties

I provide confidential counselling and a safe space for individuals and couples who are facing some difficulties or challenges, and who want to take time to explore current issues and options within a supportive and non judgemental environment. The range of issues I deal with is varied, including lack of confidence, depression, social anxiety, panic attacks, abuse, relationship difficulties, problems at work, redundancy, loss and bereavement.

Some issues arise from the past and if they are still affecting the client's life, they may wish to talk through and resolve. Some clients hope to make future changes and developments in their life and relationships and want to explore options, concerns and how to make the right decision.

I am experienced in working with men and women from diverse cultures, backgrounds, sexual orientations and age groups on a wide range of issues. I work in different settings, including private practice, and accept referrals from GP surgeries, employers, schools and other organisations.

I believe the strength of the relationship developed between counsellor and client is the key factor in the value and effectiveness of the therapy. My practice is based on a person centred approach and I focus on building trust, empathy, respect. Clients set their own agenda, purpose and pace. And, I draw on approaches including gestalt, cognitive behavioural (CBT) and transactional analysis to raise awareness and bring insights.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
