About me

Hello and welcome to my profile.

I have 20 years experience working as a person centred counsellor and cognitive behavioural therapist offering a professional service, in a safe, accepting and confidential environment. I deal with a wide range of issues including abuse, low self esteem/self confidence, stress and anxiety, panic disorder, depression, loss and bereavement, relationship difficulties, identity and sexuality to name but a few.

We all have times in our lives when we feel distressed, confused or overwhelmed and it can be a relief to talk to someone outside your family or circle of friends. My role as a counsellor is to get to know you and help you develop a greater understanding of yourself, enabling you to explore your feelings, thoughts and actions in relation to your difficulties. It could be unresolved feelings and trauma from the past, painful conflicts in the present or worries about the future. Counselling can provide time and space to work with your concerns and help make sense of your life - only when we understand ourselves can we bring about change in our lives.

With courage and commitment and in the companionship of a caring professional, you may find fresh insight, empowering you to make choices and ultimately move your life forward.

Initially I trained in Person Centred Therapy but also use an integrative approach depending on the needs of each individual.

Person Centred Counselling focuses on an individuals self worth and values.  Being valued as a person, without being judged, can help an individual accept who they are and reconnect with themselves.

Being heard and truly listened to has a powerful impact on a person.  Research shows that continuous experiences of being acknowledged and validated in a relationship provide unique opportunities for change, growth and clarity.

Depending on the presenting problem, other therapeutic approaches will be integrated.  While a person centred approach always provides a fundamental base for treatment, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques can be introduced to address the role of dysfunctional thought patterns on emotional life, effect behavioural change and encourage you to become your own therapist, if you so wish. I want to help you to make the changes you need to live a more fulfilling life.

In addition to individual counselling, I have experience of working with couples whether it be a marriage, co-habitation or civil partnership.  The relationship, rather than the two individuals, is the 'client'.

I offer both short and long term therapy.

I am also a qualified supervisor and work with trainee and qualified therapists.  I offer individual and group supervision to organisations also.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I have a strong belief that the relationship between you and your counsellor is at the very heart of therapy so it's important that you choose someone who is right for you. An initial brief initial assessment by telephone provides the opportunity to determine if counselling could be of benefit to you and that we would feel comfortable to work together.

If I am unable to take your call please leave a message and I will call you back as soon as possible. All calls will be returned.
