Fiona Gunasekara, MBACP (Accred), Dip Couns, Dip Sup, MSc
I place a great emphasis on our working alliance because I believe this to be at the core of eventual change. You will find me to be empathetic, down to earth and relatable. Having had counselling myself, I am well aware of just how daunting it can be to talk to someone for, what might be, the first time. I am here to listen and see if we can work together to find a way to help you overcome your current difficulties. I have been working as a counsellor since 2000 and have worked with clients in various settings.
I work with individuals, couples, families and groups.
I have background in working with addictions and also within the NHS were most of my work was around anxiety, depression or bereavement.
I believe in the process of counselling enabling us to make changes in our lives. If you are looking at the profiles on here then you are likely experiencing some difficulties in your life right now and looking to change something. Maybe you are suffering from anxiety, stress or depression or maybe you are a couple experiencing some problems in your relationship?
I know that counselling can help you to overcome difficulties that you are facing by talking them through in a safe and confidential environment without the fear of being judged. I see the aim of counselling as being to help you feel more in control of your life and allow you to live in a way that is more satisfying and productive. Most of us will, at some point in our lives feel low or even depressed, counselling can help you to overcome this and move forward. I have over 17 years experience as a counsellor.
Couples counselling can be a useful and safe way to work on the issues that you are having as a couple without the fear of being judged or belittled by each other or your counsellor.
I am an accreditated member of BACP and as such adhere to their ethical framework.
I offer a no obligation initial session so that you can make sure you are comfortable to proceed.
