Gillian Sedgwick Snr MBACP
Welcome to my web page, I really understand how difficult and uncomfortable it can be to search and find a counsellor at anytime but right now is a harder time to seek help. The Coronavirus has infiltrated our lives on many levels, emotionally, physically and financially. I can’t see you in my home at the moment , but I can reach out and help you via telephone counselling or video sessions. If you would like to consider this as an option, please email me or call me and we can talk it through, and see if it would work for you.
I am a senior accredited counsellor and have been practicing since 1999, I hope that by reading this and or my website it helps you feel more comfortable and to begin the journey to improve your life.
Sometimes we all lose direction and our focus or we become overwhelmed by life events and relationships. I can offer you long term or short term counselling in a safe, professional, non-judgmental and confidential environment.
You may feel nervous about counselling, wondering if it can really help you? I would always recommend that you come for an initial session and we can talk through all your concerns and then decide if counselling would be the right thing for you.
I work with clients from adolescence to older people , heterosexual or gay and welcome diversity , disability and cultural issues.
I help clients with a wide range of issues including relationship issues, family issues, affairs, divorce, depression, self esteem building, generalised anxiety, stress, work related issues, eating disorders, physical abuse, sexual abuse, anger management, bereavement, termination, miscarriage, identity issues and other life changes and transitions. Sometimes it's hard to describe and nail what you may feel is wrong, come and explore your feelings and we can look to make sense of it and improve your life.
I offer relationship counselling either individually or as a couple. Relationships are complex, whatever has brought your relationship to this place, maybe an affair? Betrayal and trust issues? Loss of communication? Intimacy issues or connection? Counselling can really help you get back on track.
I also see clients from employment assistance programmes for short term therapy.
My experience includes working for three years at a local NHS hospital as an Honorary psychotherapist and employment as a university student counsellor at The Royal Holloway College in Egham for ten years. I also worked as a school counsellor in local secondary schools for 13 years.
My counselling approach is Humanistic, however I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)into my work particularly to help with anxiety, stress and depression. I am actively engaged in continuous professional development thereby updating my skills, ensuring I offer you the best evidenced based therapy.
I am warm, sincere, caring and non judgmental, I will help you to feel safe enough to explore your issues in a comfortable and confidential setting. Please contact me by telephone, text or email, whatever you are most comfortable with and we can discuss any concerns and possibly make that initial appointment to change your life.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
