Is it time for you to make changes? To sort out what is keeping you stuck? To let go of the past and move forward? To start living with confidence and purpose?
The good news is that I’ve helped hundreds of people who feel like you do right now... anxious or sad or confused. My name is Alex Pledger and I’m a private counsellor and life coach working in South Birmingham.
I help people work out what has gone wrong, why it might have happened and, most importantly, how to make positive changes going forward. I practice in an integrative way which means I combine various counselling approaches to get the best fit for the problems you are bringing. I'll listen and ask questions to try to understand without judging you, but if some of your thoughts or behaviours are holding you back, then we might tackle them together, either by talking, or doing a written exercise, or through some homework you might be given between sessions. My style is down to earth. Although the process of therapy can feel strange at first, I try to make our sessions feel as normal as possible... a two way dialogue about the things that really matter to you.
Here's what one of my clients said about working with me: "I originally made contact looking for answers. It took surprisingly little time before I realised that it was not the answers that I was missing but the right questions. Alex acted as a facilitator for the changes I wanted to make and I found the whole experience constructive, practical and useful." (testimonial by D.H)
I offer a warm welcome to new clients at my therapy centre in Moseley B13, with daytime and early evening appointments available. We would book an initial session to see how we get on, and plan a way forward from there. If this sounds like it might be right for you, please get in touch to set up an initial appointment.

I have had some great reviews from clients who have worked with me and they may help you decide if I am the right therapist for you:
"I was referred to Alex for severe anxiety problems that were affecting me both at home and at work. I was apprehensive about whether counselling could help me because my symptoms had no obvious cause. However, I immediately felt at ease with Alex thanks to her kind, caring and patient manner and ended up pouring out everything to her. Her understanding and the message that this was fixable helped me immediately. I learnt about what anxiety really is, how to recognise my symptoms before they took over, how to keep things in perspective, and mental tools that really make a difference." Ben
"I saw Alex over a period of months during which time I felt safe and listened to. Alex was respectful of me, my baggage and my process. She told me there was no magic wand but took the time to get to know me and provided a space free from judgement and criticism and had faith in my recovery even when the days were dark. Alex gives the therapeutic profession a good name, she is boundaried yet caring and worked hard to make me feel in control during one of the most out of control times of my life. Thanks Alex." Bec
"I had five sessions of counselling through a referral to Alex, which were a huge support through a very difficult time. Alex is extremely professional, offered appointment times to suit me, in a very calming, relaxing environment. Alex is very insightful and was able to rapidly help me to see the situation from the outside looking in, and to help me find a way to resolve the problem. Alex also provided techniques to use in between sessions which enabled me to make significant progress in a short space of time." Tracey
If these reviews sound similar to your situation, and you would like to see if I can help, please don't hesitate to contact me and we can book an initial session.
