Is it your time to change? To get clear on what you want and how to get it? To wake up feeling confident, with a sense of purpose?
If you’re looking at this page then you know already that you want things to change. You may be fed up feeling anxious, or sad, or just confused about why you think the way you do.
The good news is that I’ve helped hundreds of people who feel like you do right now. My name is Alex Pledger and I’m a private counsellor working in South Birmingham. I help people work out what has gone wrong, why it might have happened and, most importantly, what needs to change to get things back on track.
My style is down-to-earth, honest and interactive. I believe that counselling is about helping people make lasting and sustainable changes and my job is to help you to do that. I'll listen to what you're telling me and ask questions to try to understand, without judging you. But if you have thoughts or beliefs or behaviours that are holding you back, then we might need to tackle those together. We can talk them through, or try some written exercises, or you may be given some homework between sessions.
I've been a counsellor and coach for 15 years and I like to help people get results. Here's what one of my clients wrote about working with me:
"I was very sceptical about how 'talking about my problems' would help me find a solution. It was the BEST thing I've ever done. Alex did not offer me solutions but something so much better - the skills to deal with my problems rationally whilst being kind to myself." Anne
I offer a warm welcome to new clients at my therapy centre in Moseley, with daytime and early evening appointments available. We would have an initial session to see how we get on, and plan a way forward from there.
If you would like to make contact to see if I might be the right person to help you, please get in touch to set up an initial appointment.

I have had some great reviews from clients who have worked with me and they may help you decide if I am the right therapist for you:
"I was referred to Alex for severe anxiety problems that were affecting me both at home and at work. I was apprehensive about whether counselling could help me because my symptoms had no obvious cause. However, I immediately felt at ease with Alex thanks to her kind, caring and patient manner and ended up pouring out everything to her. Her understanding and the message that this was fixable helped me immediately. I learnt about what anxiety really is, how to recognise my symptoms before they took over, how to keep things in perspective, and mental tools that really make a difference." Ben
"I originally made contact looking for answers. It took surprisingly little time for Alex to change that and I soon realised that it was not the answers that were missing but the right questions. Alex acted as a facilitator for the changes I wanted to make and I found the whole experience constructive, practical and useful. I made some adjustments to my behaviour but it is my thought processes that have changed forever.” Dan
"I saw Alex over a period of months during which time I felt safe and listened to. Alex was respectful of me, my baggage and my process. She told me there was no magic wand but took the time to get to know me and provided a space free from judgement and criticism and had faith in my recovery even when the days were dark. Alex gives the therapeutic profession a good name, she is boundaried yet caring and worked hard to make me feel in control during one of the most out of control times of my life. Thanks Alex." Bec
"I had five sessions of counselling through a referral to Alex, which were a huge support through a very difficult time. Alex is extremely professional, offered appointment times to suit me, in a very calming, relaxing environment. Alex is very insightful and was able to rapidly help me to see the situation from the outside looking in, and to help me find a way to resolve the problem. Alex also provided techniques to use in between sessions which enabled me to make significant progress in a short space of time." Tracey
If these reviews sound similar to your situation, and you would like to see if I can help, please don't hesitate to contact me and we can book an initial session.
