About me

You are not alone right now if you're feeling anxious and overwhelmed. It's understandable to be confused and panicky in these very uncertain times. Talking to a professional can help you make sense of what to focus on to feel better and stay well.

Challenging negative thoughts * Soothing anxiety * Managing worries * Calming mind & body * Introduction to mindfulness * Establishing a self care routine

My name is Alex Pledger and I’m a counsellor and life coach. I help people work out what they’re feeling, how their thoughts are affecting their mood and behaviour and help find ways to make positive changes. I practice in an integrative way which means I combine various counselling approaches to get the best fit for the problems you are bringing. I'll listen and ask questions without judging you, but if something is holding you back, then we might tackle it together, either by talking, or doing a written exercise, or with homework between sessions. My style is down to earth. Although the process of therapy can feel strange at first, I try to make our sessions feel as normal as possible... a two way dialogue about the things that really matter to you.

I am currently working online, offering sessions via video.

Here's what one of my clients said about working with me: "Alex has a lovely steady, calming manner and makes you feel at ease. I found it amazing when she would summarise what I said ... I wanted to shout "yes, that's it, you've got it!" To find someone who could make sense of the mess in my head was such a relief. She has an ability to interpret what you are saying with such accuracy, sensitivity and gentleness. Following my sessions with Alex, I feel like a different person." (testimonial by C.S)

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

I have had some great reviews from clients who have worked with me and they may help you decide if I am the right therapist for you:

"I was referred to Alex for severe anxiety problems that were affecting me both at home and at work. I was apprehensive about whether counselling could help me because my symptoms had no obvious cause. However, I immediately felt at ease with Alex thanks to her kind, caring and patient manner and ended up pouring out everything to her. Her understanding and the message that this was fixable helped me immediately. I learnt about what anxiety really is, how to recognise my symptoms before they took over, how to keep things in perspective, and mental tools that really make a difference." Ben

"I saw Alex over a period of months during which time I felt safe and listened to. Alex was respectful of me, my baggage and my process. She told me there was no magic wand but took the time to get to know me and provided a space free from judgement and criticism and had faith in my recovery even when the days were dark. Alex gives the therapeutic profession a good name, she is boundaried yet caring and worked hard to make me feel in control during one of the most out of control times of my life. Thanks Alex." Bec

"I had five sessions of counselling through a referral to Alex, which were a huge support through a very difficult time. Alex is extremely professional, offered appointment times to suit me, in a very calming, relaxing environment. Alex is very insightful and was able to rapidly help me to see the situation from the outside looking in, and to help me find a way to resolve the problem. Alex also provided techniques to use in between sessions which enabled me to make significant progress in a short space of time." Tracey

If these reviews sound similar to your situation, and you would like to see if I can help, please don't hesitate to contact me and we can book an initial session.
