My name is Alex Pledger and I’m a counsellor and life coach. I help people work out what they’re feeling, how their thoughts are affecting their mood and behaviour and help find ways to make positive changes. I practice in an integrative way which means I combine various counselling approaches to get the best fit for the problems you are bringing. I'll listen and ask questions without judging you, but if something is holding you back, then we might tackle it together, either by talking, or doing a written exercise, or with homework between sessions. My style is down to earth. Although the process of therapy can feel strange at first, I try to make our sessions feel as normal as possible... a two way dialogue about the things that really matter to you.

Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified as a counsellor in 2005 and then went on to train as a life coach and clinical supervisor. I am senior accredited with the British Association of Counselling Professions and have been practising as a therapist in private practice for nearly 20 years. I specialise in working with adult individuals.
I have worked with a number of organisations including the NHS, local authorities & charities, corporate companies and private health care providers. I am registered with BUPA, Aviva and Vitality private health insurers.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Individual sessions usually take place weekly for 50 mins and are charged at £50.
