” The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.....”
Carl R Rogers
What I offer -
We all want to live happy, fulfilled lives but sometimes life has other ideas and we can find ourselves feeling depressed, sad, anxious, panicky, confused and isolated and at these times it can be helpful to talk to someone who will really listen to you and who is sensitive ,empathic, supportive and who offers confidentiality.
I offer clients a safe space in which to talk things through and gain new perspectives, develop inner resources and self awareness and gain or re gain a sense of self esteem and renewed confidence.
My greatest satisfaction comes from seeing clients regain control of their lives and move on positively. Sometimes clients contact me weeks, months or in one case years after completing their work with me to let me know the positive ways in which their lives have progressed and for me that's fantastic. The greatest compliment my clients can pay me is to recommend me to others and this is how I get a lot of my referrals.
Some client comments-
Here are just a few comments that clients have made recently
” I knew I needed to change but just didn’t know where to start. Thank you for your kindness and patience in guiding me through the process”
”Coming to see you has been one of the best things I’ve done. It’s been hard work and at times painful but I now feel that at long last I’m the person I was always supposed to be”
” I was really nervous about coming to Counselling but from the minute I arrived you made me feel really safe and comfortable. I now really look forward to our sessions and can’t understand why I was so worried”
” I’ve found the techniques you’ve taught me so useful in dealing with my low mood and anxiety. Before I came to see you my life had become really restricted but I now have the confidence to go out there and do stuff. You’ve given me the skills to be able to do that”
My experience -
I am a fully qualified and registered BACP accredited counsellor and adhere to their codes of ethics and practice which includes having monthly supervision to ensure that I maintain consistently high standards.I hold a current CRB certificate. I am registered with the ICO and collect only essential information, store and dispose of it safely according to their guidelines.
I have substantial experience in a number of settings having counselled at a women's centre, and at a recovery centre for those with addictions and have also worked in mediation. I have been employed as a counsellor with social services and have experience of preparing reports for court. I have 18yrs experience in Counselling and have been in private practice for over 15 years. I am also a fully qualified hypnotherapist, psychotherapist and counselling supervisor.
My therapeutic approach -
I work from a broad therapeutic base, integrating theories and techniques and choosing the approach that best suits each individual client in order for them to gain insight, overcome difficulties and move on with their lives. In particular I work with -
person centred counselling
cognitive behavioral approaches
(All of this comes under a person centred umbrella which means that the working relationship that we develop is at the core of our work together and you and I form an equal partenership in order to help you to find a way forward).
It's rather like taking the appropriate tool out of a tool box. I use which ever approach or combination of approaches that best suits each person at that time and in consultation with the client.
How many sessions? -
You choose how many sessions that you have and for how long you continue to engage in counselling. Most clients will come for at least 6 sessions and at this point in our work we both assess how we feel it’s going or where to take it next. Occasionally one or two sessions are sufficient at other times a few may be needed and occasionally counselling may occur over a longer period.
There is no need to book for a course of sessions. You simply book each session as you require it. I just ask that you give at least 24hrs notice where ever possible, if you can't make your appointment or need to change it.
I work from a quiet and comfortable room in my home in Norton Tower Halifax. There is ample parking on my drive and I am close to bus routes.
I am a very friendly and down to earth person and enjoy working with a wide range of people and get a great deal of satisfaction from being able to help people resolve their issues and move on with their lives again.
Please get in touch with me via email to arrange an initial session.

I am a fully qualified counselling supervisor and I have offered supervision to both trainee and qualified therapists, working in private practice and for a range of organisations, for several yrs.
I absolutely love my supervision work, finding it hugely satisfying and rewarding. I work within a humanistic, integrative model. I trained in supervision with SDS Training and hold a Certificate In Essential Supervision Skills, approved by the British Psychological Society.
I am flexible in my way of working, depending on your requirements and needs at any given time. My aim is to support you in your work with clients and to help you to grow and develop as a practitioner.
I am warm, gentle and supportive and gain great satisfaction in seeing my supervisees grow in confidence. I see the relationship as a reciprocal one as I gain so much from these relationships also. I am happy to share any resources that might be of use to you in your practice.
I realise that some issues will not safely or sensibly wait until our next session so am always happy for my supervisees to speak to me on the phone between sessions when that is helpful.
It is important for both supervisor and supervisees that the working relationship is going to be a comfortable one so I’m happy to offer an initial meeting, without charge to allow you to decide whether you would like to continue.
I offer high quality, reasonably priced supervision and work from my home in Norton Tower. I know how essential it is for therapists to have the support of regular supervision but I’m mindful of all the demands on our finances which is why I try to maintain my fees at an affordable level.
£40.00 per 60 mins (£30 concessions)
£60.00 (£45.00 consessions) per 90 mins (BACP requirement)
I am also in receipt of 90 mins supersion monthly myself and attend training to keep my skills up to date at regular intervals.
