I am passionate about EFT otherwise known as tapping since it cured my phobia about 5 years ago now, and I am actually grateful for the experience. I’d watched people many times demonstrating tapping on their head and thought ‘that just looks weird!’ How wrong I was! Like many people, I can be sceptical about different therapies until they either work on me or I gain knowledge about them I don’t give them a try. This is such a shame as we can’t explain everything.
I originally started to notice the anxiety I was getting with birds and winged creatures in 1992, when I went to some caves in Australia. I had some parrots land on my head. I then began to run around screaming much to the amusement of my Australian friends and onlookers. They were all shouting at me to put my crisps down, but because of the fear I didn’t even seem to comprehend such a simple act of doing away with my much-enjoyed snack.
The next episode came about much later when I was going through a tough divorce. It could only seem to happen to me... I had a bat in my kitchen! So similarly to the song there is a rat in my kitchen what am I going to do I was singing ‘there is a bat in my kitchen what the hell am I going to do!’ I decided to hide under my duvet, safe for the night no stress and anxiety under here, I began to calm down a little and seemed to fall asleep with shock I think. So the next day no one would rescue me and it ended up that my cat killed it which has upset me because I have since become vegan and much more consciously aware. But to justify it I did have the beginnings of a phobia that was layered from years earlier. I realised that my phobia had become an issue by the time I took my kids to Tropical Wings a beautiful butterfly farm, that my phobia was well and truly established. There I was in front of my kids and for all and sundry to see was I, screaming, running around and away from the large butterflies with my leaflet flapping to protect myself, feeling positively sick with fear!
Well, I can look back now and giggle only because I decided to learn Emotional Freedom Technique and thanks to an amazing tutor who taught me all she knew. On my first level, I was used as a guinea pig and my tutor was amazing as she uncovered my original fear back when I was 12 feeding chickens with no shoes on and the sweet little chickens were pecking near my toes and flapping their wings. I have since become a therapist and now helped many people with counselling and EFT. So all worked out well in the end and I have since stood in an Avery with a happy face
