Tips to rest, relax and refresh

It’s the end of the year and it’s been a busy one – sit back and think for a moment, what moments of 2016 can you remember? Are they positive or negative?

CD-Relax-Refresh

When the year rushes by, we often feel a wave of exhaustion, relief, stress and joy, all at once. We feel like we should have done more, travelled further, achieved better things. But be sure to take time out this week – schedule a day or two where you can take care of yourself and do what you love.

We know, it seems as though there is no time, but it’s important to make it. We share our top tips to really get some rest, relax and refresh the mind, ready for the new year.

Slip away for some alone time

For many of us, December is a month filled with dinners, parties and plenty of family-time. While we enjoy socialising, it’s important to slip away from time to time and focus on yourself.

Schedule some time away from the hustle and bustle and be selfish – it’s OK, you’re allowed! Run a bath, listen to some music, bake a cake – do whatever you want.

Reflect on the last 12 months

Reflect on the year, but focus on what you’ve achieved and how you’ve grown, rather than on the disappointments. We’re sure you’ve done a lot more than you realise – sometimes you need a moment to think to recognise your strengths. If there is anything you wish you’d achieved, but wasn’t able to due to time and other priorities – don’t forget it, aim to reach the goal when you’re ready.

Set intentions for the year ahead

Forget New Year’s Resolutions, chances are they’ll be unrealistic and unreachable, only to leave you disappointed. Instead, set intentions and goals. Treat yourself to a new notebook, or start a new note on your phone and think about what you want to achieve next year.

Try not to go too big – start small and take steps to leave your comfort zone. Split your intentions into sections, one for January, one for six months, one for eight and one for the whole year. Having your goals planned will get you excited for what’s to come and keep you inspired for the future.

Pamper yourself

Lastly, treat yourself to a pamper. Resting your body and mind is the perfect way to welcome the new year and the intentions you have set. Go outside and appreciate the world, despite the winter chill. Get your body moving and clear your mind, feel positive for the new year and take it as a chance to push yourself and be happy.
