In addition to this, the report found that a third of UK children feel frightened when they are around adults under the influence of alcohol.
Childwise conducted the survey for BBC Newsround and questioned around 1,234 10 to 14 year old’s half of whom admitted to having seen their parents drunk. Half surveyed were not bothered by adults drinking but 16% said alcohol made adults angry and aggressive with 30% saying they were scared when adults drank.
The survey has come just six months after Ed Balls, the former Children, Schools and Families Secretary warned English parents not to under-estimate the ‘dangerous consequences’ of underage drinking.
Childwise have said action needs to be taken in order to prevent binge drinking from becoming an epidemic for the next generation and Ms Duff has said the first step is to better educate children on the perils of binge drinking from an early age.
