Supervisor Bruce Guthrie (Dip. Couns., MBACP)
I enjoy working with therapists as a supervisor and have 14 years such experience. My approach is based on the Creative Arts Supervision Training which is now run by Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.
The CAST approach is informed by the Seven Eyed Hawkins/Shohet (http://www.livingtherapy.co.uk/seven-eyed-model) and the principals of the Sesame Approach to Drama & Movement Therapy. In sessions we can use creative methods to think about your work with clients such as active imagination, mythic stories as well as enactment, movement and work with objects.
My sense of the supervisory process is akin to couples therapy in that the therapist and their client as a couple. The supervision offers a chance to work through aspects of the relationship that's present (or not) in the dyad.
One of the things I value in my own supervision is to examine the ways in which the needs of the holding institution can get acted out in the work. Having worked in many institutional settings (NHS, social services, education, voluntary organisations), my aim is to bring such awareness to the work.
