United therapies CPD workshop on 'perinatal health'
Synopsis: The perinatal period (conception to when baby reaches the age of two) is a particular window of vulnerability for women's mental health. More recently, it has also become evidenced as a 'magic window' for intervention.
This seminar will explore the unique aspects of working therapeutically with this client group. We will consider how our own experiences of being parented, our relationship with ourselves, the availability and quality of our support network, our expectations of motherhood and hormonal changes influence our emotional well-being. We will also consider why intervention at a time when our attachment systems are naturally re-wiring can be so effective.
Dr Jen Wilson is a BPS chartered and HPCP registered clinical psychologist with expertise in child and adolescent mental health, developmental trauma, perinatal mental health (e.g. antenatal anxiety and postnatal depression) and parenting.
