Treating trauma - a dramatic workshop delievered by Dr Iain Bourne

Nottingham counsellors group are a bunch of qualified counsellors/psychotherapists who organise not for profit training events.

Treating trauma is our second training workshop.

Much of human suffering can be traced back, in one way or another, to traumatic experiences. Trauma can challenge the foundation of our being and has the capacity to send us off in unbidden trajectories. 

How do we help the person who was repeatedly abused as a child, or who witnessed the murder of their parents, or was raped, or held at gunpoint, or lives in a violent relationship? What common thread binds these experiences and at what point do they depart from one another? This workshop cannot answer all those questions but it is an opportunity to explore how the counsellor’s world and the client’s experience of trauma can combine to loosen the chains of the past.

This dramatic “fringe theatre” style course aims to provide participants with new insights and skills in working with people whose lives have been impacted by trauma. Critical incidents are narrated and reenacted by the trainer followed by critical examination and clarification of good practice.

On this course, you will:

• Explore the issues that affect you in working with trauma.
• Clarify the differences between Types I, II and III traumas.
• Consider how people adjust to trauma and needs change overtime.
• Look at the construction of therapeutic narratives for Type I Traumas and the mapping of psychological ruptures.
• Take an overview of different models of working with trauma.

The structure of the session

Morning session: 9.30 – 1.00 (with comfort break)

Lunch: 1.00 – 1.40 Buffet lunch Included

Afternoon session: 1.40 – 4.30 (with comfort break)
