About the training course

This course will be a small working group for 10-15 members and is for qualified counsellors and psychotherapists who are motivated to extend their practice into this challenging area of work. It is designed to provide a coherent psychological understanding of some of the key issues that contribute to emotional eating and obesity, together with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively with clients with over-eating issues. Teaching methods will include didactic input, small group work, role play, experiential activities and plenary discussions. It will employ an integrative approach including some TA concepts and CBT techniques. On completing the course, there is the potential opportunity to become an Associate of the WeightWise programme.

The course comprises four modules, which focus respectively on helping clients:

  • explore and understand their emotional eating
  • explore their motivation and resistance to changing their eating behaviour
  • accept, contain and manage their feelings more effectively
  • identify and challenge old thinking patterns.

Course information:

The four-day training will take place on the following days:

8th/9th September 2016 and 15th/16th September
