An introduction to phenomenology
An in depth discussion of the phenomenological tradition and its origins and practical applications in the fields of meditation, creative writing  and counselling /psychotherapy

Duration : five 1 day workshops spread over 5 months

Module 1 The origins of epoche or bracketing.The radical sceptical school of Pyrrho
and its links to the Indian gymnosophists,
i.e. the Madhyamaka school of Nagarjuna. The practice of bracketing and the practice of meditation.

Module 2 Being and Becoming:
Heraclitus and Nietzsche. Anti-foundationalism and appreciation of the
everyday. Exercises, experiential work and discussion. Creative writing.

Module 3 Husserl: Essences,
transcendental ego, the art of science

Module 4 Merleau-Ponty’s ontribution to phenomenology: embodiment, the body-subject, bringing back essence into existence.

Module 5 Levinas, Derrida, Helene
Cixous: otherness, radical ethics, and the phenomenology of hospitality.
Applications in daily life and in counselling/psychotherapy

Throughout the course we will alternate discussion of theory with practical/experiential exercises and group discussion
