Tackling obesity from an addiction perspective by Rochelle Craig
Tackling obesity from an addiction perspective by Rochelle Craig.
Focusing on abstinence through the 12 step programme and what implications that has when it comes to food, the importance of support and identification with others, the difference between abstinence based 12 step recovery and a weight reducing diet, Rochelle will also give a personal account of her own addiction and recovery.
Rochelle has been in recovery from BED (binge eating disorder) for over 20 years through the 12 step programme. 13 years ago she decided to start another journey, one that would enable her to help others who had experienced similar problems.
Rochelle gained a Masters in Addiction Counselling and became accredited with FDAP (Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals). She chose this route because she could absolutely see the correlation between the use of food and the behaviour of a drug addict/alcoholic. She wanted to work with all addictions, specialising in compulsive overeating/BED/food addiction.
She has been doing that for the past 10 years, at The Living Room project (www.thelivingroom.me.uk) in Hertfordshire as well as her private practice near St. Albans.
