New maudsley model workshop for parents/carers affected by eating disorders
Northern Ireland based eating disorder charity fightED are delivering the new maudsley model workshop, which is a two day course specifically for families affected by eating disorders. The workshop is delivered in a confidential, supportive environment, with no more than 12 people in each session. We limit the number so that each person can be heard and have the space to explore their own situation.
This course has recently received a certificate of quality assurance from the National Counselling Society.
The first day of the course explores the difficulties in being a carer, what eating disorders are, causes of ED, self-care and caring styles.
The second day is much more interactive, with parents/carers learning enhanced communication skills, the psychology of change, how to deal with conflict, how to promote recovery and the day involves a lot of skills practice and exercises.
So far the fightED team have had trained and helped over 200 families, across Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.
