LTF CPD workshop: The skin around the self
A training workshop led by Dr Maggie Turp
Saturday 6th May 2017
10am - 4pm
London Therapy Foundation
40 Lambert Avenue, Richmond TW9 4QR
This workshop revolves around three related states of mind, feeling properly contained within a skin, ‘falling apart’ when skin containment fails and holding or pulling oneself together in the face of inadequate skin containment. These experiences are of central significance in our lives as those in a ‘fallen apart’, incoherent state can no longer operate as an embodied ‘I’ located in space and time, and defences come into play when the psychic skin containment is compromised.
The day will include:
- The story of skin containment: Esther Bick and others.
- ‘In the moment’ and ‘narrative’ aspects of skin containment.
- Skin boundaries.
- Skin defences.
- Skin containment issues in the consulting room – please bring clinical (or personal) experiences.
