Hi my name is Janine Piccirella. I am organising monthly one and a half workshops for counsellors and psychotherapist to learn together and network too.

I am pleased to annouce the workshop in November is being offered by:

Deborah Blagden
MSc. BSc. PTSTA. CTA. CQSW. PG Dip.
Clinical psychotherapist and supervisor.

She is offering her time and energy to talk about the following subject:

Current research on men who have committed sexual offences and its application to transactional analysis.

'Demystifying the sexual offender'

I am a UKCP and BACP registered transactional analyst psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer. I have been in private practice for 20 years and run a thriving psychotherapy business in Derbyshire. I also work part time in the criminal justice system, working with men who have been convicted of sexual offences against children and adults. I have worked in this role for 30 years and I am home office trained to deliver the community sex offender programme and undertake risk assessments on dangerousness and treatment effectiveness.

Sexual offenders are a demonised client group and provoke strong reactions in others. They have difficulty accessing therapy, partly as a result of their own shame and partly as a result of ‘enough’ therapists out there who are willing or feel ‘qualified’ or ‘skilled’ enough to work with this group. There is evidence that current specific treatment programmes are ineffective in treating this client group. Whilst sexual offending and why people offend in this way is a complex subject, my aim in this workshop is to help demystify this client group, focussing particularly on male child abusers. I will link what we know about this client group from current research and conceptualise sexual offending from a TA perspective, focusing on a number of TA concepts.  My aim it to help build confidence and empower you to work effectively with this client group. Time will also be spent looking at vicarious trauma and self-care.

We hope you will join us on the 22nd of November 2016 at 19:00.

To book your place at this workshop please contact The Bay Therapy Centre and pay your non-refundable deposit of £7.00.

Tel: 0115 981 3778.

I look forward to meeting you there.

Warm wishes,

Janine.
