About me

At times we can all go through periods of our lives when we find being a human being challenging, and hard work.
Whether it be in a relationship, at work, a choice we have to make, feeling we have to look, dress, or act a certain way to fit in and to be accepted. Maybe talking to a therapist might enable you to challenge the barriers blocking you from achieving your goals?

Whether you have a specific concern that you would like to work on or a more complex problem that requires a more in-depth exploration into your behaviours, feelings, and thought processes; I feel it is really important to offer my clients a safe space in which we work collaboratively. This enables you to explore your difficulties that are causing you to feel blocked or stuck in the here and now. For example relationship issues, sexual identification, body dysmorphia disorder, LGBT issues, Eating disorders, stresses at work, bi-polar, specific anxiety, generalized anxiety, depression, anger, sexual abuse, loss, grief, phobias, and drugs or alcohol worries, etc. You're not alone - all of us can at times feel quite lost, confused and isolated which can feel quite debilitating and scary.

My name is Zee Finch, I am a fully qualified Person-Centred counsellor / psychotherapist, experienced in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT) and Mindfulness Based Approach.

Here is an brief outline to give you an idea about each approach :

Person Centred:
Person-Centred approach is based on the theory and philosophy of Carl Rogers.
It is a non-directive approach to being with another; that believes in the others potential and ability to make the right choices for him or her self, regardless of the therapist's own values, beliefs and ideas.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT):
CBT cannot remove your problems as they were experiences that happened, but it can help you deal with them in a more positive way. It is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical response and behaviours are linked, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a repetitive cycle.
CBT aims to help you change this cycle by breaking down an overwhelming problems into smaller parts, and this can enable you to see how to change the negative patterns to improve the way you feel.

Mindfulness Based Approach:
Mindfulness Based Approaches are designed to deliberately focus one’s attention on the present experience in a way that is non-judgmental. Mindfulness has its roots in Eastern techniques, in particular Buddhist meditation.

I run my therapy practice from Hove, East Sussex, easily accessible from Brighton. Or If you are not able to get to this location I also offer counselling and psychotherapy sessions via Skype.

As a counsellor and psychotherapist I work with adults, adolescence and couples on a 1-1 basis offering sessions as either open-ended or for a specific time period. We would work together collaboratively on the goal or goals you have bought into therapy. At times other issues come to the surface, if at the time or at a later date you wish to explore these concerns I would be happy to continue to work with you.

I also work as a counselling psychotherapist at The Priory in Hove near Brighton, where I offer individual 1-1 therapy as well facilitating group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT). I offer a relaxed and non-judgemental empathic space in which to explore your feelings and goals confidentially. Depending on the individual persons needs I facilitate from either Person-Centred or a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) modality or a combination of both approaches. This helps to provide the foundations for you uniquely to explore what has brought you into therapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
