About me

I am an integrative therapist able to use a range of therapeutic interventions drawn from the humanistic, psychoanalytic and CBT traditions.  This means I draw on the interventions that I think will be most helpful for each client that I see.

Sometimes I help people to look at the relationship between their current troubles and their past experience in order to gain insight into and overcome unhelpful emotional patterns they have developed.

Sometimes I work mostly in the present moment, helping people to delve deeply into their feelings right now about themselves and others in order to find more fulfilling ways of living. Usually, the sessions will revolve around my client talking about the problems that are most urgent to them, but if it seems useful, we may work together in other ways too. For example, we may use mindfulness, or explore dreams.

If you are thinking of working with me, you should know that my goal would be to welcome the whole of you - even the bits you are frightened or ashamed of - into the therapy room, so that these parts of yourself can be explored in a safe space.

We would take this work at a pace that was comfortable for you. Exploring these areas is never easy; but my experience is that greater confidence and vitality result - and new ways forward in life can be discovered that were previously unimaginable.

Brief Note on Online Work during the Coronavirus Lockdown

At this current time, my training and experience have primarily been in delivering face-to-face therapy.  However, like most therapists, I am offering online therapy during the lockdown period.   It seems important to make sure therapy is available to all who seek it at this challenging time.  I am therefore glad to take on new clients who wish to work on Zoom or by telephone during the period of the lockdown, and who wish to move to face-to-face work in my East Finchley therapy rooms once the lockdown ends.

I have had 10 hours of training accredited by the professional body for online therapists in the U.K., the Association for Counsellors and Therapists Online (ACTO) to extend my knowledge of working online, and to ensure I provide a high quality service during this period.   I have also been working online with quite a number of clients and supervisees since the start of the lockdown in the UK, so am gaining experience rapidly!  From this experience,   I have become confident I can provide high-quality online counselling.

However, if you are looking for long-term online therapy, that is, if you definitely want to continue to work online rather than face-to-face when the lockdown ends, I would strongly recommend you seek a therapist who is a professional member of ACTO.  It is worth checking that their membership is a professional membership rather than any other kind explicitly.  This will mean they have had at least 80 hours formal training in online counselling and therapy from a reputable training provider.

However, as stated above, if you want to work online at the moment and move to face-to-face work when it becomes possible, I really welcome hearing from you!
