About me

If you choose to come to me for counselling you will find it a safe place to explain and explore what is bothering you. In your own words and only as quickly as you are comfortable, I will encourage you to help me understand what is troubling you including how it is affecting your feelings and emotions. I will be non-judgmental while helping you define and clarify why your problem is troubling you. You will also find me willing to help you say what you cannot say on your own. You can trust me to keep what we talk about confidential and not share it with anyone else in your life. You will find me honest, caring and sensitive. You will feel that your worth and value as an individual person is respected. You and I will work together, discussing and weighing up possible solutions to the problems that brought you to counselling. You will feel supported, empowered and motivated in your journey to resolve the problems that are disturbing you.

The answers to your problems may come in the form of a new understanding or perspective. You may find some new way to personally accept an answer to the problem that previously you had discounted. You may be able to decide on a course of action to change the situation that is causing you concern. Your counselling may help you acquire new life skills that allow you to more effectively deal with the problem should it arise again in the future. You could find a new appreciation for how you really feel about a particular issue. In short, you may learn a different way to see the world so that your problems are more easily resolved. You also may find the answer to your difficulties is in widening your social circle. You may feel energised and wanting to be around other people and their company more than you have in the past. In whatever form the answers to your problems come, in general, you will find you are feeling differently and as a result, can move forward once again in your life.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

COSCA

COSCA Counsellor Accreditation is a pathway to entry onto the UKRC.

It is a requirement of all individual and organisational members of COSCA to abide by its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and be accountable to the Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
