Viki Margerum Dip Counselling, Registered Member MBACP
7 Nelson Street
Counselling provides a safe, confidential and regular space where you are free to talk about and explore - free of judgment or criticism - difficult or confusing feelings and thoughts. You are enabled to reach a better understanding of what is happening in your life and can therefore act upon these helpful insights to create positive change going forward. I believe that the answers to your current needs are discoverable within.
One of my aims is to help you to gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes and by doing so, identify ways to understand, accept and integrate these – ultimately encouraging solutions for positive change. We might explore how you have been affected by particular life events and people and their actions in your life - and vice versa – and integrate alternative ways of coping and being in order to encourage harmony and peace.
I would describe my therapeutic practice as intuitive, compassionate and informed by mindfulness practice. I would support you to become more and more aware of being present 'in the moment', whilst encouraging a greater awareness of how you are being affected by your feelings and (sometimes unhelpful and sabotaging) thoughts. We might become aware of the thoughts that might be controlling behaviour and actions in an unhelpful way - where do they come from? How was your unique belief system and view of the world created? We might also focus on the somatic self and somatic-emotional experiences – what is your body trying to tell you about how you are coping with, and feeling about, your life?
I also offer counselling to parents and new parents-to-be. One of my passions is to encourage both baby and parent to make the birthing process and start of life as calm and supportive as possible. I can offer advice on resources and techniques for both baby and parent, in addition to offering emotional support and encouragement during this most miraculous and challenging time of transition.
