I am an experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor as well as a mindfulness practitioner. I offer individual and couples counselling for both long and short term face to face work. I offer a free 30 minute no obligation constultation.
I work from an integrative perspective which means I can draw on each of the major theories of therapy to find an approach which suits your needs, we can then work together to resolve the difficulties you may be having.
People come to counselling for many different reasons: anxiety, depression, relationship issues, sexuality, loss, trauma are just some examples. Sometimes people also seek out counselling for more non-specific reasons, perhaps wanting to build their self esteem or raise self awareness or to have a better quality of life.
I see therapy as a colaborative approach between the client and therapist and I work closely with the relationship between us, believing this to be a major component in the therapeutic process. Counselling is not about being given advice, it is about having someone be able to listen to you without judgement in a safe environment where you can explore your feelings and begin to see things from a different perspective, this can then bring about a process of change.
I offer a free 30 minute no obligation session where we have a chance to talk briefly about what has brought you to counselling, it is also a chance to see how we both feel about working together and a chance for you to ask any questions you may have. If we decided to continue working together then we can arrange an initial session where I will take some more detailed information about what is going on for you and ask you some questions about your past life experiences. Sometimes when we are struggling with things in the present, it is helpful to have a greater understanding of our past so that we may recognise patterns and raise our conscious awareness, this can be very helpful in us recognising choices and being able to see ways forward from our current situation.

I have over 15 years experience of working in private practice as well as in a variety of organisational settings including addiction recovery and further and higher education institutes. Over the years I have worked with diverse age and cultural range of people. I have particular experience in working with young people with low self esteem. I have also worked with many couples to help resolve relationship difficulties or manage separation.
In addition I also have many years experience of working as a group facilitator and group co-ordinator as well as a supervisor of individuals and groups. For the past 7 years I have trained other therapists in a number of counselling related topics, which has enabled me to have a deeper knowledge of many of the problems that clients present with.
I have a particular interest in mindfulness as a therapuetic tool and I have taught several Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction courses and workshops to groups and individuals. I have completed a teacher training course with the Centre of Mindfulness Research and Practice at University of Bangor and am furthering my knowledge of this by continuing my training with them.

I also offer mindfulness sessions to individuals and groups. Mindfulness is increasingly being seen as an effective way to help manage stress, anxiety, depression or physical pain. It can also assist in increasing our self esteem, improve our interpersonal relationships and break unhelpful behavioural and emotional patterns. I run regular 8 week mindfulness based stress reductions courses as well as one to one sessions.
