Vanessa Williams MBACP, Dip, BSc
The Therapy Rooms
Hello, my name is Vanessa,
Life is full of challenges, obstacles and difficulties; are you struggling to make sense of your life? Many factors can affect an individual's ability to flourish; abuse, traumatic experiences, grief and loss, life’s stages/events, low self-esteem and a lack of self -direction.
Deciding to see a counsellor is a big decision you may feel that know one understands or that you do not want to share your difficulties with family or friends. Confidentiality is the core of the counselling relationship, it builds trust and the therapeutic relationship.
I am a registered, proficient, member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I am bound and adhere to it’s ethical framework for good practice to work safely and in the best interest of clients.
I am a qualified, integrative counsellor. Integrative counselling is a combined approach to psychotherapy that brings together different elements of specific therapies. As unique individuals we have different personalities, needs and experiences, I believe one approach is not suited to all clients. Counselling techniques are tailored to your individual needs and personal circumstances to assist growth and change. This approach can help individuals of all ages with a range of personal issues, particularly helping to overcome specific problems such as depression, anxiety, personality disorders, abuse, trauma, eating disorders and alcohol addictions.
I can offer you a safe, genuine, respectful, and non- judgmental environment that values your feelings, views and difficulties. I will listen and use approaches that are best suited to your needs and difficulties to assist you to explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings. I will not direct and tell you what is best for you. Making sense of your world can be difficult, I will provide you with support throughout the counselling process so you can find your own solutions to your concerns and issues.
I have over ten years experience of supporting diverse young people and adults at all levels in education, effectively and successfully. I am trained and qualified in providing additional learning support to learners with a wide range of disabilities, medical conditions, emotional and behavioural difficulties. My training, knowledge and skills have developed throughout my counselling practice in a specialised sexual and domestic abuse counselling centre; supporting survivors, trained to National Survivors Trust Standards. I have worked with clients and service users pre and post trial providing therapeutic support and advocacy, pre – trial therapy trained. Experienced in working therapeutically with children and young people from the age of 11 in a school well-being setting. Working with clients from the age of 11 to 62.
I am passionate about supporting others, my own journey has been the driving force and motivation to assist individuals to remove barriers and overcome their difficulties. I have dealt with many adversities and barriers and would be privileged to share your journey. I believe in diversity to promote equality, awareness and lessen oppression. My personal journey exploring my own mixed heritage, which at times was difficult has assisted a positive identity development. I work with diverse clients to celebrate who they are.
Counselling sessions can range from short – term to long- term according to your wishes and needs , I always work in your best interest.
