I've been a massage therapist for over twenty years and have become increasingly aware of the connection between mind and body, not just as two sides of the same person, but inextricably entwined and responding to life events together, perhaps even unconsciously.
Over the years, many of my clients have wanted to talk and share their thoughts and the difficulties they face in their lives as well as receive the healing touch of massage, so training to become a counsellor seemed the most logical way forward for me.
I believe in the power of both massage and talking therapy to change lives, helping people grow and become stronger physically and emotionally, but I also believe that no two people are the same, so there are no 'one size fits all' treatments.
As an integrative therapist, I draw on different approaches to the therapeutic work depending on the needs of each client, as no two people are the same. And, believing body and mind are connected, part of the way I work in counselling is to use mindfulness and increasing the awareness of what goes on in the body as it is influenced by thoughts and feelings.
I believe that a safe space in which to explore our experiences and thoughts can help us find a way forward with our lives when things seem too difficult to manage and that, given the right environment and support, we all have a great capacity within us to find the answers for ourselves.
Ultimately, I believe that a warm, genuine and non-judgemental relationship is the most important element of therapy and at the very heart of the way I approach working with my clients.
