Valerie Morenikeji Registered MBACP
I am an experienced and professional counsellor/psychotherapist. My work is grounded in person-centred and psychodynamic theory respectively. I mainly work in an integrative way - which involves a humanistic and person centred approach.
How counselling can help
I try to help my clients by enabling them to empower themselves, to live a more peaceful and meaningful life. Counselling can help in many different ways; struggling with personal and emotional issues, having difficulties with relationships, bereavement, self-esteem, anxieties, trauma, depression and so forth.
As a counsellor I am not there to give advice, but to listen and help you question the way you perceive things, react to situations or people, and help you find a way forward. The way I work is to help you find solutions to specific problems which are troubling you.
What to expect in your first appointment
The purpose of the first appointment is to meet you and gather some helpful information from you about your current situation and to assess how counselling might be of assistance to you, and if so, in what way.
It is an opportunity for me to understand your situation and for you to meet me. The fee for the first one-hour appointment is £25.00. At that first appointment, we will discuss what issues have brought you to consider counselling. This will be an opportunity for you to ask questions you have about what counselling might involve. I would like to assure you that anything that is discussed by you is held in confidence. The way I work is to enable clients to explore issues in a safe and confidential environment.
If, together, we decide that counselling will be of benefit, we will discuss when that could take place, how many sessions might be needed. I aim to help you find solutions to the specific problems which are troubling you.
The counselling relationship is very important, whereby being honest, respectful, non-judgemental are all important.
I am a member of the BACP and I am bound by their ethical codes of practice.
