As a Chartered Counselling Psychologist I specialise in the treatment of trauma, anxiety and depression and working with military personnel both in-service and veterans.
My colleagues and clients see me as a compassionate, approachable person, who is non-judgemental, open-minded and has a good understanding of how distressing your difficulties can be. Therapy is primarily based on talking together to help discover the link between your personal history and the factors that are maintaining your difficulties. With the aim of working towards embracing new skills, so that you can help yourself deal with your problems and bring about positive changes.
What kinds of problems can I help with?
I can help you with conditions such as depression, anxiety, childhood abuse, traumas, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Furthermore I can help you manage life events, such as bereavement and stress; relationship difficulties both past and present. I can help both individuals and families alike. Often the thought of seeking help is a frightening idea. You are very welcome to invite a partner or friend for support if you wish.
I am happy to offer a free 15 minute chat on the telephone if you wish.
The first assessment usually lasts for about an hour. During the assessment I will talk with you about the problems that have prompted you to seek help and ask about your health and your background. However, I would like to reassure you that if you seek treatment, you dictate what we say and do and anything you say will be treated in the strictest of confidence
After the assessment
If you wish to proceed with therapy you will be invited back for a follow up appointment to help you make sense of your difficulties and discuss the proposed treatment plan.
Your treatment will depend on your goal and problems, however all therapy is based on The Department of Health, NICE guidelines, that recommends the use of psychotherapy in the treatment of many disorders.
Treatment is primarily based on talking together, setting realistic goals and deciding how to bring about a change for the better. I liken my role as a Counselling Psychologist to that of a Guide leading you towards your goal.
I have undertaken specialist trauma training and am an accredited Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist and an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Psychotherapist.
