Whatever it is that's troubling or concerning you, you may be feeling somewhat apprehensive at this moment, wondering how, or if, counselling can help. Perhaps you are going through a difficult time which is bringing anxiety and confusion into your life. I hope that by writing this letter I can give you some reassurance about what counselling is, and what it is that I offer.
First and foremost, I provide a safe confidential space, a space where you can talk freely. I will listen and help you to make sense of what's happening in your life, and what it is, that's causing you to feel the way you do. Sometimes we can lose touch with important aspects of ourselves that can affect our relationships and every day living, leaving us feeling stuck.
Therapy can help to deepen awareness and create different perspectives or new ways of looking at your situation. It can provide you with a space to explore thoughts and beliefs that may be holding you back, and an opportunity for you to discover qualities or aspects of yourself that can help to move you forward.
The first time we meet I'll ask you some questions about yourself and your history, what has brought you to therapy and what you would like from it. This initial assessment is an opportunity for you to ask any questions and to decide if counselling is the best way forward for you.
The quality of relationship between therapist and client is key to the success of your therapy. I believe that humour and laughter is important, as these are the moments that connect us as human beings, as well as the moments of pain and sadness.
If I can be of further help please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions or would like to book an appointment.
I hope this helps and gives you some reassurance as you begin your counselling journey.
