I am a Gestalt Counsellor and practice from Kings Cross NW1, London Bridge SE1 and Balham SW12. I decided to become a counsellor after being inspired by my own journey as a client. I feel passionate about encouraging others to tell their stories of love, loss and shame as I believe this can empower and improve the well being of individuals. I work relationally at your pace and creatively to raise self awareness.
I have extensive knowledge on themes such as anxiety, bereavement, relationship issues, frustration, stress and cross - cultural issues. I thrive working creatively for example; using dreams, drawings, body awareness, inner child and welcome any other creative possibilities. I have experience working with groups, individuals and young adults.
I am a Gestalt qualified counselling practioner with over 10 years experience in the non profit sector. I aim to explore stuck patterns of behaviour and any unfinished business in a confidential, warm, safe environment. As a registered counsellor, I am committed to continuing professional development and adhere to the BACP code of ethics.

Umaa is warm and friendly and instantly put me at ease. She is compassionate, non judgemental and empathic. She listens carefully and what she picks up; she feedbacks in a gentle, caring manner. She made me feel safe and secure. She listens attentively and helped me to control my anxiety. Highly recommended.
What is Gestalt?
If you Google the word there are many meanings, perceptions and images. I believe the value of this approach lies in its diversity. There is no fixed method or one size fits all solution. It is about looking at how many various selves / parts there are; maybe you can identify them as some of the following: e.g. Employee? Parent? Child? Best Friend? Inner Child? The list goes on and we recognise that all these different parts have different needs.
Gestalt is about working in the present but does not exclude the past.
Gestalt is about noticing body sensations and tensions and by raising awareness of the body we can become better equipped to self care.
Gestalt is about noticing that as human beings we subconsciously repeat patterns. By becoming aware of the patterns we repeat this can lead to noticing what choices we have and make and this in turn can lead to a potentially more nourishing life.
I welcome any questions you may have.
