Dr Ulia Mather, MBACP (Reg) Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Supervisor & Trainer
25 Avon Road
I work with clients who either have mild issues or suffer from prolonged mental health, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, relationship, anger, temper, control issues, multiple diagnoses and addictions. I have thousands of hours of clinical practice working in various settings over many years that include short and long term work. People usually come to me through word of mouth as I offer therapy with a difference and have a reputation of helping people to achieve positive outcomes. Sometimes therapy can be a difficult process and choosing the right therapist can be hard but very important decision. I am here to assist and guide you not only based on my expertise but also the capacity for wisdom and healing we all have.
As the therapist specialising in couple and trauma counselling/psychotherapy I also provide individual/group supervision, study groups, mentoring, consultations to organisations, run various presentations on request, training and organise and facilitate CRM (Comprehensive Resource Model) trainings in the UK. CRM is neuro-biologically based effective trauma treatment model. For more information please go to www.comprehensiveresourcemodel.com or look at Lisa Schwarz CRM explanation clips on Youtube. I was consulted by Politicians on the Scottish Government's approach towards survivors of childhood abuse.
Each of us is a unique individual so every session is adapted to the person’s needs by integrating various approaches and creative styles. My non-judgemental, respectful and confidential environment with emphasis on deep empathy and honesty, hopefully will allow you to feel safe and address various fears. I see myself as a challenging, flexible and grounded therapist who has a wealth of experience and the clients’ best interest at heart. Together we can explore your thoughts, feelings and physical sensations that underpin patterns of behaviour that you don't like or may not even be consciously aware of. Coming from a medical background as a physician my special interest lies in somatic dissociation and how psychological issues affect physical health.

During our initial appointment which lasts up to 1.5 hrs we discuss your needs, you can see how I work and together we can propose the plan of your therapy. You are not obliged to stay that long if you feel this will be too much for you. This is simply an opportunity to have a proper initial meeting to get to know each other. I will be glad to answer to any questions you might have. You are then free to think about whether I am the right therapist for you and choose the duration of upcoming sessions .
I charge £60 per hour for individual and £70 for couple therapy, an additional 30 min during the initial consultation is free (this option is not available for insurance or EAP funded clients). Occasionally I have spaces for reduced rates for people with very low income or on benefits, please enquire about availability.
Please note often couple and trauma therapy benefits from 1.5 hrs session.
There is on-street free parking and Lothian bus stop within less than 5 min walk.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other queries.
In my spare time I love to spend a quality time with my family and travel. I am interested in various cultures and have good understanding of differences and diversity, I have travelled extensively abroad and lived in many countries. I enjoy theatre, cinema, comedy performances and rugby.
