Dr Ulia Mather, MBACP (Reg)
25 Avon Road
Whether you have had previous experience of therapy, or it is something new to you, choosing your new therapist is not always easy. So many different therapeutic styles and professionals are on offer, that it can feel overwhelming and add extra stress. The words anxiety and depression are so over used nowadays that they have almost lost their meaning. The truth is we are all vulnerable in some way, at some point in life, whether we choose to acknowledge it or not and consequently it is not only affecting how we feel about ourselves but also how we relate to other people.
My clients either have mild issues or suffer from prolonged mental health, relationship issues, multiple diagnoses and addictions. I also offer couple therapy, individual/group supervision and consultations to organisations. I provide mentoring, supervision and in exceptional circumstances therapy online. I have thousands of hours of clinical practice working in a GP practice and agencies specialising in past and acute trauma. My interests lie in trauma and how it affects our everyday living. Please review my qualifications below. I think every issue that brings us to therapy is accompanied by loss and trauma. I am currently involved with the Comprehensive Resource Model Organisation in the USA that brings the latest trauma treatment. I facilitate CRM training in Scotland and I am committed to spread that knowledge to as many professionals as possible in order for every client to receive appropriate support, and the very best therapy possible.
Each of us is a unique individual so every session I offer, whether it is short or long term work, is adapted to the person’s needs by integrating various approaches and creative styles. My non-judgemental, respectful and confidential environment with emphasis on deep empathy and honesty, hopefully will allow you to feel safe. I see myself as a challenging, flexible and grounded therapist who has a wealth of experience and the clients’ best interest at heart. I am not scared of difficulties, as hard work from both sides leads to achieving positive outcomes and true healing that may not have seemed possible before. Together we can explore your thoughts, feelings and physical sensations that underpin patterns of behaviour that you didn’t like or may even have been consciously aware of.
Many unpleasant and painful memories tend to be repressed and unconsciously blocked in order to protect ourselves from feeling those difficult and unbearable emotions. We tend to detach ourselves from the painful reality and often gain unhealthy coping strategies by dissociating in the present even when the danger is no longer present.

During our initial appointment which lasts 2 hrs we discuss your needs, you can see how I work and together we can propose the plan of your therapy. I will be glad to answer to any questions you might have. You are then free to think about whether I am the right therapist for you.
My private practice is limited to evening appointments from Monday to Thursday and day time on Thursday and Friday and in a very special circumstances on weekends. I charge £60 per hour for therapy and do not make discounts with exception of offering the second hour free during the initial consultation. The cost of supervision is often less depending on its nature and people’s needs. Please feel free to contact me on my mobile preferably or email if I have not covered something, I will be more than happy to answer your queries.
In my spare time I love to be with my family, travel, do gardening and watch movies. I am very interested in various cultures, have travelled extensively abroad and lived in many countries.
I am also extremely committed to continuing my professional development and doing my own work as self-care comes in different ways. In addition as Lisa Schwarz points out "One of our goals as healers is to embody clarity and core self in our personal relationships and professional work on a daily basis".
