Profile

Are you looking for a Counsellor in North Devon?
I am a one-to-one counsellor, working in Barnstaple, Ilfracombe and the surrounding areas.
Do have a look at my site and book a free introductory session.

Do you want to talk about what is weighing you down?

Are you stressed, and not sure why?

Does life sometimes feel like it gets too much for you?

You may benefit from counselling.

Counselling is a process that can lead to growth and change. Each person has their own story, their own truth, their own loneliness and struggle. It might be that you just need your story to be heard and understood; or that you want to reach a deeper understanding of it, and of yourself as well.

Whatever it is you need, I will provide a safe space, where we can gently explore the issues you bring.

What is counselling?

Counselling is different for every person, as we all have different needs. In a safe, confidential space we will explore the issues you bring, whatever they may be. We will work out what it is you require, and I will attempt to travel with you on your journey.

Do I have to tell the counsellor things I feel uncomfortable about?

No, you don't. It may be that after a while you feel safe enough to talk about things that are initially too difficult or painful. But it is always your choice.

How long is each session?

A counselling session lasts 60 minutes. Usually I offer one session a week. Some more long-standing clients prefer to see me just once a fortnight, or once a month. I recommend once a week to start with, but that can change, according to your needs and the situation you are in.

What happens in a typical session?

There is no "typical" session, as every person I meet is different, and has their own idea of what is essential to them. We will work it out together. It's your time, make as much of it as you like. You may want me to listen and understand; you may want to gain greater understanding of your own situation. You may have a problem in a relationship or within yourself. You may be feeling stressed or anxious, or depressed, can't sleep, worry about something all the time. Whatever you bring, we will work through it.

Can I really afford counselling?

Many people feel very different already after just a few sessions. My aim is to make you independent from counselling, and able to cope with your life the way you want to. This may not take very long at all! We decide together on a plan: what it is you want from counselling, and how often you want to see me.

What are the fees?

I charge £30 for a full hour.

What if I miss a session?

If you are unable to make an appointment, please contact me as soon as you can. If less than 24 hours' notice is given, a cancellation fee of £15 may apply.

Do you offer a free initial consultation?

Yes, the first time we meet, we will discuss what it is you need. We will have the opportunity to get a sense of one another, and you can decide whether you would like to come to me for further counselling. This will only be a short session, about twenty minutes, and it will be free of charge. Most clients will then want to add the full hour on straight away - I will ensure I have the time for this.

Where do you offer counselling?

I am based in Barnstaple, North Devon, which is accessible from Ilfracombe, Lynton, Braunton, Bideford, Umberleigh, South Molton, and the rural areas in between.
