About me

Counselling can be helpful for a number of different life difficulties such as anxiety, depression and family and relationship issues.  Often in life we need to re-think or re-evaluate where we are going or who we are - you do not have to be in crisis for counselling to be of help to you. I aim to support you to be the best possible version of your self.

I become a counsellor around 20 years ago and I have experienced many of the problems a full and busy life can give you. I wantled to support other people in making good life choices and to live happy and fulfilling lives free from difficulties that restrict them.

Becoming a counsellor meant completing many years of training and I completed my first Diploma which was based on Carl Rogers Person Centred approach in 2002.

I continued to study Eric Bern’s Transactional Analysis (TA) which is an easy to understand model of communication based on the idea we can all learn how to understand why we act and think in a certain way when other people are around us. It’s helpful in both professional and personal relationships that feel difficult for some reason and we just can’t seem to fathom out why.

I have also a completed an Integrative Diploma in Counselling which means I use a number of well know approaches in my work. These include the Person Centred approach (PC), Transactional Analysis (TA) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

I also use mindfulness and meditation techniques to help support a person become more aware of the present moment and to relax and enjoy some 'being' time.

I have previously worked in Oxfordshire schools as a counsellor and co-ordinator as well as running my Private Practice (Great Western Counselling and Psychotherapy) which is on the outskirts of Didcot in Oxfordshire.

I have an interest in the difficulties of parents looking after children with additional support needs and how these affect the whole family.

I have also worked for a number of organizations supporting young people and victims of crime as well as mothers experiencing difficult feelings after the birth of a child. I have also worked for the NHS as a counsellor working within GP surgeries.

I am an Accredited Member of the The National Counselling Society (NCS)

I work from a light and spacious garage conversion next to my house with bathroom facilities and room for social distancing.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
