About me

I remember how daunting I found it when I first needed a counsellor. I was trying to hold down a full time job, bring up my family and going through various issues. Finding the time to even look for a counsellor seemed a difficult enough task.

That is why I value the counselling relationship and ensure that each of my clients feels supported and safe throughout their counselling experience with me. I know that each of you will have questioned your decision to see me many times before we have even met.

I am a registered member of the BACP and work in an integrative way. This means I can offer a wide range of services including working with clients experiencing many life events and emotions including depression, anxiety, low mood, anger, self esteem, bereavement. I also hold a Life Coach qualification which enables me to help clients to move forward and form achievable goals.

If you are interested in Coaching get in touch and we can discuss a bespoke package designed specifically for you.  An example would be a package which allows you to reignite your passion for life, to reclaim your power and for you to work towards anything that is meaningful to you.

A typical Coaching package is 4, 8 or 12 months long as we redesign whatever areas you feel we need to look at. Unlike counselling, as a coaching client you have email access to me as often as you need between sessions and you are able to have short ten to fifteen minute calls between sessions if you need guidance.

I work with you in a way that suits you. It may be that you want to talk or you might want to incorporate breathwork or movement into your sessions if you feel you are storing emotions in your body.

Mindfulness based CBT one to one 8 week course

This weekly course teaches you Mindfulness techniques that you can continue to use in daily life including how negative automatic thoughts can often determine how we react to situations and how our mood determines the actions we take. As it is not a group course I tailor it specifically to your needs

As the course is linked to CBT it costs £55 per week.  Each session lasts for 75 minutes

I run monthly Mindfulness/Meditation groups and I offer individual sessions for anyone who wants to learn more about how to incorporate Mindfulness and Meditation into their every day life.

I am also a qualified hypnotherapist and tapping practitioner and I combine these with counselling if appropriate.

I currently run two courses.

6 week one to one course for manifesting the future that you desire.

This is aimed at individuals who may feel that there are too many outside demands on them. They have lost their way and want to learn new skills to help them to work towards a desired outcome.

7 week one to one course to improve confidence and self esteem.

This course is aimed at individuals who do not necessarily feel that they require counselling, but want to learn confidence building techniques and skills that they can carry forward in their every day life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over twelve years experience working within the Probation service. This has involved working with clients from wide ranging backgrounds and also their families. I have seen how an individual's behaviour affects not only them but also the people that are close to them. I have also worked with victims of crime and abuse.

I have worked extensively in the areas of anxiety, mental health, domestic abuse and addictions. I have experience of working with people who are struggling within their relationships. I appreciate how anxiety disorders can make us feel isolated from our friends and families..

I have worked with people suffering from trauma and PTSD.

I also work with various organisations Mental Health First Aiders, offering them a supportive space to discuss any issues and to grow into their role

I will discuss with clients what they are looking at achieving and if appropriate I may combine various modalities, which may include, counselling, tapping  and hypnotherapy as this can be very effective especially when people are struggling to verbalise trauma.

I use Coaching for people who have not necessarily faced trauma but have reached a point in life where they feel stuck or that they are not living a life true to themselves.

I work with women experiencing menopause and peri menopause symptoms, helping them to navigate this time in their lives.

I have previously worked as a counsellor within an NHS GP surgery

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
