Tracy Hayward, Dip.Counselling, MBACP, Therapeutic Life Coach FRTC
By searching for a counsellor or therapeutic coach online, you have already taken that difficult first step in acknowledging you might require support. You may be looking into whether counselling is right for you, your relationship as a couple, or your child.
Speaking with a counsellor you feel comfortable with, can enable you to find new ways of coping. You can talk about issues that you cannot talk about to anyone else, no matter how close.
Studies show that your relationship with your counsellor/coach is the key to a successful outcome within therapy. How well we connect with our therapist is essential – clients need to feel safe, secure, and that they are working with someone they can trust.

Training, qualifications & experience
I offer counselling or short term therapeutic coaching
Originally I qualified as a registered general nurse, but since 1995 have worked with children in an educational environment. For eight years I worked as a learning mentor, and later a counsellor in a large middle school. Three years ago I left to concentrate solely on my private practice although still receive referrals from schools to work with students, parents and staff.
I have extensive experience also of working with adults with a very wide range of mild to complex issues and spent two years working at an addiction agency. I enjoy the diversity my work brings, affording me the privilege to work with individuals, couples and young people.
I have been trained as an integrative therapist, so I work flexibly, using specific techniques and key concepts drawn from various approaches. Tailored to your individual needs, I can apply elements of the main theoretical approaches to my counselling practice.
I work mostly in a person centred way, which allows the client to bring what they wish to talk about, setting the agenda. However if appropriate, and with your permission, I may introduce a slightly different way of working, using transactional analysis, and cognitive behavioural therapy.
I am also a trained therapeutic coach and if this is your preferred way of working, I offer short term work of 5 to 6 sessions. In our initial session we would briefly explore your current issues - why you feel stuck, anxious, depressed, dissatisfied or unhappy - whatever you might present with. We then proceed to the next step, identifying what needs to change, what is within your control and how you make positive changes. Often we don’t know where to begin to turn things around - I can provide the tools and strategies to enable you to move forward, teaching you new ways of 'being' and coping with life that you can use from hereon. Coaching is a more directive form of support in comparison to counselling however the work is very collaborative and empowering - it is about taking back control of your life.
I am committed to regular and extensive CPD.

I offer a free, no obligation (up to 30 minutes) consultation for adult counselling clients, whereby we can discuss your expectations of counselling, and how we might work together. If you feel comfortable, and we establish that I am the most appropriate person for you to work with, then I usually suggest we meet weekly. We would review our work regularly to check you are getting what you want from counselling. Our work together may be short or long term, dependent on your needs and what is most useful.
When I work with children I invite you to the first session with your child to enable me to carry out an assessment. This can take up to 50 minutes and will involve history taking, and an exploration of current issues. Sessions are £45 for 50 minutes.
When I work with couples, we begin work at our first, initial session - this lasts for 90 minutes, and incorporates an assessment.

'Tracy is very warm and caring. I trust her judgements and she follows procedures very carefully. Her success made her role a cornerstone of our pastoral care system. Although Tracy has left our employment due to the success of her own private practice, we still buy in her services. She respects confidentiality, is reliable and has been a genuine asset to our school - I would highly recommend her to private clients.' JC, Headteacher, Woodland Academy, Flitwick
