About me

(Please note I will be on holiday from 29 March and when I return I am fully booked until week commencing 29 April, if you are able to wait for therapy.  I am happy to receive enquiries during this time and will get back to you as soon as possible.  Many thanks).

I work remotely and am experienced in holding Zoom online video link counselling, which I have done for many years.

I am a fully qualified Integrative Humanistic Counsellor & Cognitive Behaviour Therapist.  I am also qualified at a diploma level in mindfulness, hypnotherapy relaxation techniques, and life coaching, which may support your therapy sessions.

I specialise in working with Relationship OCD (ROCD), a subset of OCD.

Over the past twelve years, I have developed a successful therapeutic approach to effectively support people who experience ROCD in managing distressing and intrusive thoughts around relationships, including educational content. The accompanying compulsions can be debilitating and affect your day 24/7, affecting your self-worth, self-confidence and self-esteem, leading to stress, anxiety and panic attacks.

I have also published a book, available on Amazon, Waterstones, Barnes & Noble and other online retailers, called "ROCD, Is it a thing?" by Tracy Foster.  It is an informative, educational guide to understanding and overcoming ROCD, including many self-help techniques.

My therapeutic approach continues to develop with OCD and ROCD as I am passionate about learning new techniques tailored to your needs within your journey of overcoming and working with ROCD.  There are practical tasks you can undertake between sessions that will be very useful in your progress.  From my experience, consistency in building self-awareness and reaching achievable goals is key.  I will also help you understand OCD, intrusive thoughts and anxiety using language we use daily so that it does not add to any more confusion or bewilderment.  Please read my articles on ROCD or my book if you feel this issue is affecting you, especially if you feel emotionally distressed because of the intrusive thoughts, which are so confusing and go against the grain of how you rationally experience the relationship.

I also support people with anxiety, depression or general low mood, which affects day-to-day living.  I can help you manage and explore these feelings and support you in finding effective coping methods.

You are unique, and I will work with you to tailor your therapy to your needs.

What I am committing to you in counselling:

I'm not going to judge you or be discriminatory.  My values are important to me, so these will shine through with empathy, openness, approachability and friendliness in my work with you.  I will support you with your problem to help you build self-awareness and compassionate understanding and help you find new ways of thinking and coping.

If you are feeling anxious or depressed, I understand it is uncomfortable and truly horrible for everyday life.  I support people with anxiety and depression attached to many different problems.  I can help you develop self-compassion, build on your self-worth and self-esteem, manage your stress with helpful coping strategies and support you to feel good about yourself again.

The professional info you might like to know:

I work within the ethical standards for safe therapeutic practice as a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy).  I have successfully been working in my counselling career for over twelve years, and much of that has been online.  Online counselling has become quite popular due to ease of accessibility and since the pandemic. Still, if you are uncertain if it would benefit you, I offer an introductory conversation to talk things through.

If you would like to contact me via email or phone, I am pleased to discuss how I work to help you decide if I can support and work with you, and I will reply to you confidentially.

Why Counselling

Some problems are complex, and knowing which way to turn or who to talk to can be difficult.  Advice from friends or family can be well-meant, but even that can sometimes confuse the situation, and you can find yourself running around in circles!

Many people find "mental health issues" remain stigmatised in today's world - I hope to help you offload what some may consider even a "small problem" - but it may not be to you.  A chance to offload your worries and share with an independent, caring person can significantly increase your well-being.

What happens in Counselling

I will offer you a safe space to discuss issues impacting your life professionally and confidentially, and together, we can look at how you might find solutions that can work for you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
