Tracy Carter - BA (Hons)/Integrative Registered Member - BACP
I work with, Young teens, Adults, Couples, Older Adults, who have experienced difficulties with Life, Relationships, Bereavement, Anxiety, Depression, Stress/Anxiety, and more.
By being here I sense you have taken the first step in finding a way of living for you.
It could be you need to deal with a life event, relationship issue, a mental health concern, a work issue or that life just isn't working or stuck... and you do not know why and yet want to feel happier.
Whatever your reason for counselling I am here to listen.
I am a qualified Person Centred and Integrative therapist. I work in an eclectic way, which means I take elements from different models, it is the combination of directive and non-directive counselling, this means that I will work with you to ensure we find the most effective way forward for you.
I am a Registered member of the BACP and adhere to guidelines of the Ethical Framework, I am fully insured and attend regular Supervision and CPD.
SINCERE, NOT EVASIVE
Some counselling websites/profiles could be seen to imply counselling as being a peaceful walk in the park. I’d ask you: how does your guilt with bereavement or your struggles with your depression feel? Probably not peaceful.
So, for those dealing with life matters, I take an open, accepting and respectful approach to your counselling. We can talk about all of the difficulties that you cannot talk about elsewhere. And we’ll go at your pace.
My approach is to aid clients in coming to terms with anxieties in life in a way that makes sense to them, to assist them how their emotions affects their day to day life and how to manage/work through matters when the uncomfortable matters crop up.
OUR 1ST SESSION - ASSESSMENT APPOINTMENT
Our first session is an Assessment Appointment, to see whether Counselling is for you, and what you want from these sessions, it is also to see if I am the right Therapist for you.
Counselling is your decision and your's alone, friends /family may be concerned about your welfare and persuade you, but they cannot force you into something you do not want.
You may only need a few sessions (4-6) or longer term support, we can review how you feel, and whether you would like more, but that is your decision
SITUATIONS A COUNSELLOR MAY NOT WORK WITH
As an ethical Counsellor, there are areas that I am NOT capable of working with, I think it’s important to give you an informed decision about working with me.
- I do not provide instruction on how to resolve your personal problems, I do, however, assist you in discovering these for yourself.
- I am a Counsellor/Psychotherapist, it's not the same as a psychologist, a psychiatrist, a psychoanalyst or a GP/Doctor. I do not provide diagnoses nor prescribe medication.
- I cannot see someone “sent” to me for counselling, no matter how well intended. It is your choice if you would like counselling
- Couple Counselling cannot “fix” your partner for you. If you both wish to participate in looking at the relationship’s difficulties, you will be welcome.

This poem by Theodore Roszak (1981) sums up what I aim to offer as a counsellor:
You and I….
we meet as strangers, each carrying a mystery within us.
I cannot say who you are; I may never know you completely.
But I trust you are a person in your own right, possessed of a
beauty and value that are the Earth's richest treasures.
So I make this promise to you:
I will impose no identities upon you, but will invite you to become
yourself without shame or fear.
I will hold open a space for you in the world and defend your
right to fill it with an authentic vocation.
For as long as your search takes, you have my loyalty.
