I offer both short and long-term therapeutic counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. Ultimately, my aim is to provide a place where you can freely discuss your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and then support you in bringing about whatever changes you might want to make in your life. I practice with the belief that you're the expert on you and that the therapeutic relationship is of central importance in our work together.
I work by listening carefully to what it is that is concerning you, as well as what you are already doing to cope. I believe that by talking your problems through in some depth, and then having the opportunity to stand back from them, together we'll be able to find some practical solutions. Over time, we will be able to explore any self-limiting beliefs or unhelpful patterns of relating you may have, in order to help you choose to live in a more fulfilling and meaningful way.
We will start by having an initial consultation to make sure that talking therapy is right for you, that we're both happy to work with each other and to set some preliminary goals. We will then usually meet at the same time for approximately fifty minutes each week. The work I do is open-ended so you can use the service for as long as you need or indeed want to, and not a session longer.
Training, qualifications & experience
I was born and grew up in South East London and studied psychology as part of my undergraduate degree, before commencing my Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I then began to study psychotherapy at masters level at the Metanoia Institute in London.
To date, my training has covered a range of therapeutic modalities and theories including the person-centred approach, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and psychodynamics. These methods are utilised and often combined depending on the client's specific needs to form an integrative approach in talking therapy.
My professional experience includes working with addiction, bereavement, depression and low self-esteem, with people of varying ethnicities, age, gender and sexual orientation. Over the years I have worked in a number of different settings, including the NHS and The Priory Group. I am also an Anxiety UK Approved Therapist.
