Training, qualifications & experience

I began my counselling training at South Thames College and then graduated from Roehampton University, London with a BSc (Hons) degree in Integrative Counselling. I am an Accredited and Registered Member of the BACP and BAPAM. Also an accredited provider for the Foundation of Infant Loss and a Health Provider for BUPA, AXA and WPA among others.

At my flourishing private Psychotherapy and Counselling practices in South West London I support clients, both individuals and couples, with their many varied life stresses and anxieties. I also offer help with relationship and/or marriage issues and difficulties.

I have extensive clinical experience working with both alcohol and drug addiction at CRI (Criminal Reduction Initiative) in Surrey and previously at ASCA (Addiction Support and Care Agency) in Surbiton, Surrey, supporting both the client and their family and working in group with the affected others.

I worked for 5 years with Carers Support Merton (CSM) in Mitcham assisting carers of close family members with all forms of anxiety, loss, stress and bereavement.

My background in the Performing Arts as a Classical Singer began by studying at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama followed by a 25 year successful career as a professional Opera Singer. This has given me a great respect for the therapeutic benefits of calm breathing and mindfulness, with a personal understanding of the strains and stress and fear, and anxieties that can overtake anyone in encountering severe pressures in life and work. (Please see my published article "Voice Trauma and Voicelessness" Therapy Today.)

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have unique abilities in helping with Long Covid having both Skills as a former professional opera singer and now as a Batchelor of Science in Integrative Counselling and a published and accredited Psychotherapist. As an Opera Singer structured breathing was a part of everyday life both in preparation and during actually singing on stage. For the past nine years after graduation I have been a private practitioner as a Psychotherapist and counsellor. I have always encouraged my patients to embrace deep breathing techniques learned by me as an Opera Singer, for their therapeutic and physical well being.

I also specialise in complex post traumatic stress.

I also specialise in trauma caused by Dysphonia and voice loss.

Further information

UNIQUE SKILLS in dealing with ''Long-Covid''. You may have heard on the news recently that The English National Opera recommends opera singing and structured breathing exercises. I am a former professional opera singer and therefore have unique skills to help with this. Within my work as an INTEGRATIVE COUNSELLOR PSYCHOTHERAPIST within the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I draw on my knowledge of Person-centred, Psychodynamic, CBT and Existential approaches combining any or all of these depending on my individual clients' needs during their sessions with me.

PERSON-CENTRED THERAPY encourages the client to tap into their own vast resources of self understanding to alter attitudes and behaviour and recognise their view of themselves and how that affects their life.

"When I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
Carl Rogers

PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY focuses on helping the client understand how present behaviour or symptoms are influenced by the experiences of the past and the memories of which may be accessed deep in the subconscious.

"The conscious mind may be compared to a fountain playing in the sun and falling back into the great subterranean pool of subconscious from which it rises."
Sigmund Freud

EXISTENTIAL THERAPY is a more philosophical method of therapy. It puts emphasis on the human condition as a whole using a positive approach and maintaining a genuine understanding of the human being, spirit and mind.

"There is nothing in the world...that would so effectively help one to survive even the worst conditions, as the knowledge that there is meaning in one's life."
Viktor Frankl

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) focuses on the 'here and now', assisting by encouraging strategies to help address concerns, challenging negative patterns and beliefs and promoting more positive coping skills.
