Profile
Thank you for taking the time to look at my site. My name is Tina and I am a Diploma qualified, humanistic/Gestalt counsellor. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and work within their Ethical Framework. My counselling training has taken place over several years and is still ongoing as I believe it is important to keep my professional development updated.
I have worked at a GP surgery within the NHS and one of my specialist areas is Bereavement gaining my experience from Cruse Bereavement Care who I still work with.
I work with individuals when they are distressed, bereaved, feel overwhelmed with emotions and other problems. All you say in the session is confidential. The only very rare cases in which we would have to discuss the possibility of involving any third parties would be in case of suicide, serious harm to self or others, acts of terrorism and summon by the court.
As a mobile counsellor I am able to visit you in the comfort and security of your own home saving you the time and inconvenience of travelling, whether it is for short term or long term counselling work.
There are different forms of counselling suiting different people, so with that in mind; I offer a free 60 minute initial assessment with no obligation to commit to further sessions. This offers an opportunity for us to meet, provides a time for you to decide if counselling is appropriate for you and to see if we both feel able to form an open and trusting relationship. It will also give you some time to think about what you would like to gain from your counselling. After that, should you choose to go ahead, we will discuss matters of confidentiality and scheduling and agree a contract that will allow us both to feel confident and safe. I offer a full 60 minutes of counselling therapy a week with a regular review. In the private space of that hour, you will be able to be who you want/need to be without feeling judged although I may gently challenge where appropriate. Rather than giving advice, I help people to make their own decisions and choices. At the end of the process, I hope that you will have a better awareness and feeling of worth about yourself and that you have some new skills to take care of yourself in the future. During each of our sessions, the time is yours.
Some evening appointments are available as I do understand that not everyone is available during the day.
Family and friends are an important support network for us all and can be helpful. However, mostly they just want you to be happy so sometimes this can make it difficult for you to talk to them. Perhaps that is one of the reasons that you are visiting my site now?
So many situations can cause you to feel stuck, under-valued, helpless or unsure but I firmly believe that talking through your issues in a supportive and confidential environment can help to identify your problems and enable you to work towards some form of resolution and self-worth.
Counselling offers a safe and non-judgemental environment to explore concerns that appear difficult or overwhelming. My aim is to help you work towards developing greater self- awareness and a better understanding of the way you relate to yourself, others and the outside world and how that impacts on your current life situations. You may then begin to make effective choices that are right for you and to be able to move forward in your life.
In a session, many thoughts, feelings and emotions may be uncovered. You may feel sad, angry, happy or frustrated. You may cry or even laugh out loud and sometimes for no apparent reason at all. We will work at your pace to look at all of this and what it means for you. I can work creatively e.g. using objects, visualisation, etc but sessions are always client led. There is no pressure or expectation.
My belief is that we are each unique and I try to work in a way that will enable you to explore and understand your patterns, ways of being and relating which may be causing you some difficulties. As well as dealing with what is going on for you now, we may explore your past, which shapes the way we think, feel and behave today.
Although the outcome of therapy is not guaranteed, my aim is to enable you to be better able to make changes to your life, situations or to cope more effectively with that which cannot be changed.
What can you expect from me?
- I'll try to understand your life and the difficulties that you have, in order to help you make sense of problems and find your own solutions
- I'll let you know if I have any concerns about your mental, physical or emotional wellbeing so that we can talk about them together in our sessions
- I won't give you advice or tell you what to do, but I may on occasion share an aspect of my life experience if I believe it might help you with an aspect of your own experience of life
- I'll continue to work within the limits of my training, experience and competence, and will seek to refer you on (if you prefer) to other sources of help if one or both of us feels I am not (or no longer) the right counsellor for you
- I will maintain transparency in all aspects of my practice relating to my client, e.g fees, notice of holidays, cancellation arrangements etc
Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries or would like to make an appointment.

Further Information
How long will I need?
Just as everyone is individual, so our experience and need for therapy will vary. Issues that reveal themselves to be more complex or deeper can sometimes necessitate a more in-depth and possibly longer commitment. Likewise, issues that have a recent history could be addressed over a shorter period of time. Consequently, we can contract to work short or long term.
