About me

One of the most difficult parts of the therapeutic process is taking that first step – deciding to talk to someone.  The counselling that I offer provides a safe, confidential space for clients to explore difficult issues, obstacles, choices, and aspirations.

I work in a psychosynthetic context that within each individual there exists both a personality (patterns of behaviour)  as well as a spiritual aspect (our innate potential) encompassing work at the levels of mind and thinking, body and feeling, spirit and purpose. In our personal and professional lives each of us is a Self that is both divine and human.

My work focuses on the whole of the individual holding that we are each unique with our own past experiences, present life, and emergent potential.  Rather than rely on our own inner wisdom at times we adapt ourselves and dismiss our intuitions; finding personal fulfilment, purpose and meaning can get lost in the process and we then experience difficulties living our lives as authentically as we can. Connecting to our own inner wisdom allows us to create an opportunity to respond with curiosity rather than react from a place of impulse or protection.

I work with people from all walks of life. My approach is based upon the work of Italian psychiatrist, Roberto Assagioli, a colleague and contemporary of both Freud and Jung.  Along with philosophy and mysticism he also studied in depth both Eastern and Western spiritual traditions of the world. Referring neither to religious doctrine or spiritual practice, he described the psychospiritual aspect of this therapy as referring to our deepest, innermost relationship with the sacred.  The integration and synthesis of these wisdoms makes Psychosynthesis therapy and counselling unique.

I work with adults on a long term basis to help clients gain understanding of how their present experience may be impacted by past issues and experiences.

Short term work helping clients to achieve goals they have set for themselves is also available.

I am offering counselling via an online platform and in-person sessions may be arranged from Alderley Edge, Cheshire.  Lower cost sessions may be available as I believe no one should be precluded from counselling due to financial constraints.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered and qualified Psychotherapist and Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.

I have a Masters degree in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy at the Institute of Psychosynthesis in London which is affiliated with Middlesex University.

I  have worked in a number of settings, gaining valuable training and experience within several organisations for example: Victims Support, Carers Emotional Support and Surrey Drug and Alcohol Care.  I have experience of working with a wide range of issues including general feelings of unhappiness, depression, anxiety, loss, bereavement, self-esteem, confidence issues, major life changes such as redundancy, divorce, and relocation or transition, relationship issues, mid-life and work related issues.

I enjoy exploring and learning different ways in which I can develop in myself as well as deepen and expand my clinical practice.

In my work is as a psychotherapeutic counsellor and psychotherapist I aim to draw on a range of models and techniques to suit the individual and to personalise my approach according to the specific needs of each client.

I am committed to investing in my continued professional development and have taken further trainings in trauma-informed areas of interest such as Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), EMDR, Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, as well as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT Tapping), and Lifespan Integration (LI).

I am a certified AEDP practitioner, a type of talk therapy that is attachment based, experiential, relational, and emotion focused.  AEDP aims to help you connect with important aspects of yourself as well as to enhance connection and safety in your relationships with others.

I am accredited through and registered with UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) and I am also a registered member of BACP (MBACP) as well as a member of the Association of Psychospiritual Practitioners (APP).

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
