About me

Are you uncertain about what to do - or even what you can do? Possibly feeling overwhelmed by events or feelings? It really is true that a problem shared can be a problem solved - and it really is possible to make positive and long lasting changes to your life.  Talking therapy can allow you to feel that you can face problems, voice your concerns without judgement, and support you to act on them.  Experienced and  professional support in finding healthier and happier ways to live life..

My work facilitates you to safely work through your thoughts and feelings, and the emotions experienced, so that you can unscramble the confusion and sometimes trauma they cause. You can gain resolve to make important choices that you may not even think you can have. You can find a better way going forward from where you are now. Please do feel welcome to read my profile, which may answer some questions for you, as a starting point towards making an informed choice.

In my private practice I work with individual adults and couples, young people - teenage years through to young adulthood. I am fully insured and a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy www.bacp.co.uk
I am an Anxiety UK (Accredited) Approved Therapist, Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), and an Affiliate Counsellor for several Employee Assistance Programmes.

To benefit you in therapy sessions, I draw from my learning of therapeutic approaches, continuous updated research and knowledge of life's challenges, to understand your experiences and what will help you. I will work with you to find ways which enable you to regain strength when it feels that you have lost it, find contentment with your life or resolve struggles with issues. I can work with brief/ short therapy with a set amount of sessions or longer term therapy, depending on your requirements and identification of what you need with regard to the severity of your issues.

The areas of professional counselling I work with are shown at the bottom of my profile page. If you don't recognise your area of concern on the list, feel free to call or email me. I will be happy to discuss, and if need be point you in the right direction for help.

Initial consultations can be offered by conference call, phone or in person at my practice. To arrange a free initial consultation with me please email, call or text me using my contact details above. I will reply as soon as I can.
If you are in crisis and need immediate attention please contact The Samaritans on 116 123 - the call is free.

Counselling/ Talking Therapy

I am an experienced Integrative Counsellor with CBT, Coaching and Hypnotherapy to offer those it would benefit. Integrative counselling means I have studied a choice of therapeutic approaches which can be drawn from during our work together. These are established and respected therapies endorsed by the BACP. Being an experienced practitioner in these therapeutic approaches, means being able to encourage insightful, restorative and progressive mental strength and personal well-being for the individual human being that you are.

I qualified as a counsellor after many years of relevant work, in settings or agencies that provided support, education and/or personal and social learning and development. I have a broad first hand knowledge and experience of problems that can occur in life. My experience has been extensive with both adults and young people, and has included family and group work.

Importantly you may begin to understand negative patterns and fears that hold you back from taking control of your life.
For instance I can help with:

  • Problems in life that affect your relationships, health or work. You may experience general anxiety through to feelings of being alone or isolated, panic or depression as a result.
  • Young people experiencing young adulthood or teenage years with anxiety because of confidence / exam or school pressures / bullying / relationships / self harming or other challenges that these years of change can bring. The important stages of growing up for young people can be a very worrying and uncertain time, as they move towards and into young adulthood. Self esteem to get through this time is key to overall well-being.
  • Relationships that are struggling. Resentment and emotional stress can build and it may feel that you are working against each other rather than having a strong partnership. Couples can feel they ought to be able to work through their problems on their own, but need an impartial person with training to regain healthy communication and understanding.

Making the choice to share difficult personal concerns with an intuitive professional therapist in a supportive and confidential environment, to resolve what hinders, troubles you or just feels wrong, can create the change that you may be looking for.

We are happier people when we feel we have control and courage - strength to face problems when they happen. My work is to help you achieve the quality of life you would like and to be confident about yourself and your decisions.

How to contact me:
Please contact me through Counselling Directory by email or phone - details are at the top of this page. I will return your message as soon as possible.

A first consultation with me is for up to 45 minutes and is free. I will listen to gain understanding of your concerns and liaise with you. This provides an opportunity to meet and I can answer questions you may have about my counselling service. I work both on an open-ended basis and for an agreed time period, for your consideration.

Testimony / Feedback

Tina has excellent skills in gaining understanding and working as a therapist.
I wouldn't be where I am now in my relationship without your help.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications
I am a CPCAB Couns.Dip. qualified Humanistic Integrative Counsellor. I am also CPCAB trained and qualified as a Life Coach and PTLLS trainer. I am experienced and educated in the use of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Hypnotherapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). I hold numerous certificates in counselling education.

I continuously update my knowledge using research and engage in further learning in therapeutic areas.
To do this I belong to several groups of counselling and psychotherapy professionals, and keep up to date with current development at conferences and certificated courses.
I am registered for Enhanced DBS as a therapist for Anxiety UK.

Experience and Training
I have worked in family, adolescent and children's centres, and also education and learning centres. My work has been to improve lives and skills, providing support, training/ workshops and counselling to individuals and families
During and after qualifying, I worked at a centre where I counselled adults experiencing a range of emotional problems including varying degrees of anxiety, esteem and confidence issues, self harm, trauma or abuse that adversely affected their life and relationships.
Simultaneously, I worked at a young people & young adult advice centre in Poole. Here I was counselling children reaching teenage years, through to young adulthood ages 11-25.
I worked with with young offenders for positive outcomes and change. In parallel, I have supported victims of crime needing to rebuild trust, confidence and self-esteem.
My working history has always involved communicating with people on a personal level. This included a career that took me overseas, experiencing the diversity of meeting many people over time in different professional and cultural environments.

My CPCAB qualification required 40 sessions of personal therapy for first hand experience of counselling, personal learning and mental fitness. This was incredibly worthwhile in gaining empathic understanding from a counselling chair perspective. I gained real and true knowledge of the positive impact of good therapy in the long term.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
