About me

I am an experienced counsellor with an M.Sc in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have wide experience of many issues ranging from anxiety and depression, self-harm, bereavement, fertility issues and phobias, to victims of abuse and violent crime.

I have worked with a variety of clients in terms of age from 6-85yrs. I also have experience of cultural diversity and worked as a counsellor in a refuge for women from ethnic minorities.

I have a particular interest in life transitions, changes in family relationships, employment issues and retirement, decreasing health and long-term illness, fertility issues and the Menopause.

Why try Counselling?

Sometimes all we want is a safe place where we can express ourselves without judgement. This may be due to an unexpected situation or event that has occurred or is likely to happen. It may even be that the feeling of unsettledness within has been there for a very long time, niggling and causing discomfort.

Shame, embarrassment and insecurity can be major hurdles in tackling what is at the heart of the matter as people commonly hide from difficulties.

Whatever the circumstance counselling can offer a safe place to share these uncomfortable feelings, and improve how to deal with the issue. Counselling is confidential, non-judgemental and respectful of your situation.

I offer a safe, supportive, quiet environment, where you can talk privately What may once have seemed unthinkable to talk about, can be explored to offer better understanding and acceptance as I work alongside you to find solutions and release from painful emotions.

I can help you to:

Explore thoughts with an unbiased party in confidence

Develop strategies for dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, loss and trauma

Understand how past issues may be continuing to impact daily life, and find a resolution to feelings of hurt so that you can move on.

Raise self-esteem and self-confidence, leading to feeling more comfortable, with yourself and your place in the world

Increase ability in making choices and decisions, reducing self-doubt and fear.

Improve your relationships with others, expressing yourself more effectively and being heard

Forgive yourself and others

What to expect

You will be offered a free initial assessment, to try and gain a full picture. You will not be forced to disclose anything that you are uncomfortable with although you may find that you want to talk about more troublesome issues later. At all times you will set the pace. This initial session gives you the chance to ask questions and decide whether you feel you would like to continue or not without obligation.

How many sessions will I need?

Some people only need to speak to a counsellor once, others find that they have a lot to explore and choose to access therapy on a long-term basis although may choose to leave longer periods between sessions. Generally it is recommended to begin with weekly sessions which are reviewed after 6 weeks. You are free to stop at any point.

Children and Young People

I have extended my training as a counsellor to work with children and young people and have worked with this age group as part of a national charity. I have experience of safeguarding issues and have an enhanced DBS (CRB). I also have many years teaching experience

Venue

My counselling room is light and airy in a tranquil environment in my own home. It is surrounded by a large garden with woodland on one side of the house and meadow on the other. Some people find being outside calming and therapeutic. Counselling can therefore be indoors or in the garden as desired. Other venues are available on request.

Parking

There is generous off-road parking on the drive and easy access to the house. The accommodation is on one level and accessible for most disabled clients, but please ring and check if you have special requirements.
