About us

WeightMatters was established over 10 years ago and works exclusively with people who struggle with their weight, eating, food, health or body image.   Our team consists of 16 passionate therapists who really value listening to our clients, understanding their struggles and needs, and tailoring our treatment so that we provide the best support and care we can offer.

When you first get in touch with us we offer a 15 minute initial telephone assessment provided by James Lamper our Clinical Director who will listen to you and your story to understand what you want to get from therapy. We will ask if you have a preference for a particular therapist, the times you are available and the budget you are working with. Together we will explore options to find a therapist that is the best fit for you.

We understand how thinking, feeling and behaviours around food become a way of coping with your life, and how over time these habits can make you feel stuck. We can help you change your relationship with food and eating, and support you in feeling happier in your self.  We take a holistic view of your eating, working with you to calm and settle your presenting issues, while at the same time bringing into focus the underlying issues that have steered you to distort your relationship with food, and supporting you in resolving these.

We are able to offer short term individual therapy to help soothe the symptoms you are experiencing and longer term therapy in order to help you really make sense of some of the underlying issues. We also provide additional support with our own dietician and nutritionist plus educational workshops and breakthrough days to deepen your understanding of the weight issues concerning you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Our team of psychotherapists and counsellors offer a wealth of experience in working with weight, food, eating and body issues.  We are committed to making sure our team are offered ongoing training and professional development in order that our therapists can offer the best possible therapy to you our clients. Many of our therapists have a history of eating and weight issues themselves.  You can find out more about individual members of the team by visiting the Meet the Team page on our website.

Other areas of counselling we deal with

We deal with obesity and people who are trapped in a vicious cycle of self-sabotage, who struggle to lose weight and comfort their distress with binge eating - our SHRINK programme has been designed to deal with both the psychological and nutritional issues connected with weight loss and weight management.

The WeightMatters Training Academy offers training and continuous professional development (CPD) on working with weight, body image and eating disorders.

Our fees range from £55 per session to £115 per session depending on the level of therapist you see and whether you come during our peak or off peak session times.  Many clients pay for blocks of sessions which are more cost effective. Our full range of fees can be found on Our Fees section of our website.
