Are you struggling with anxiety, depression or relationship issues? Living with bipolar/manic depression or have reached a crossroads in your life? These are some of the issues I can help you to learn to manage within a safe, confidential environment. There are times in everyone's life when circumstances or situations such as bereavement, relationship break-downs or the pressures of work, school or college leave us feeling overwhelmed and that we don't know which way to turn leading to a range of distressing symptoms such as anger or depression. For more information on the areas of counselling I deal with see the list below.
If you want to find a way to make changes in your life, psychotherapy and counselling are 'talking therapies' which allow you to do this in ways that make sense to you. As your psychotherapist, I don't give advice, but gently help in a non-judgemental way allowing you to make your own decisions and gain an understanding of how to manage your life differently and how best to move forward positively, in harmony with your own beliefs and values,
I work holistically in a psychodynamic way (with the unconscious), as well as with what is happening in the 'here and now'. All sessions last for 50 minutes, sometimes a few sessions are all that are needed, whilst others may need longer term support due to the nature of the situation. We discuss this during the first session so you can decide if you want to go ahead with a course of sessions.
I practice in Brighton & Hove, East Sussex and Newport, Isle of Wight where I offer face to face sessions, as well as telephone and on Skype.
"I cannot overstate how useful my sessions with Terry have been. I entered my first meeting in a fairly desperate state but nonetheless skeptical about anyone’s ability to help me deal with the irrational and unreasonable suspicious thoughts I had been having, a recurring problem that had dogged me throughout my life. However Terry’s calm and methodical approach put me directly on a surprisingly fast road to recovery. Without doubt it was his expertise and encouragement that enabled me to come to the right conclusions about what my issues really were and he gave me the tools to dig a little deeper and get to the root of it all. It was his insights and guidance that gave me the belief that something could be done to manage my feelings and correct my thoughts, and after only six sessions I can honestly say that I’m feeling better than ever. My outlook on life is sunnier as a result, I am working more efficiently, and my family and friends have all noticed a huge improvement."
"I was struggling with several problems and felt I was going around in circles. I found Terry on the counselling directory website. I was apprehensive at first, not knowing what to expect. But I soon felt comfortable and safe talking to Terry about any issue. The help he gave me has changed my life completely and I am in a very different place now. I would recommend anyone struggling with any problem to see Terry, he really an help."
