Terry Gorman MBACP ( Accredited)
Hi, thanks for taking the time to have a look at my profile. I have been working as a counsellor since 2008 and I am a fully accredited member of the BACP. I know choosing a counsellor can be quite daunting so feel free to give me a call with no obligation and we can talk more about some of the issues troubling you. If I can't help I can direct you to someone who can.
Clients often report feelings that they are "losing it", that they have "no idea whats going on for them" and "I think I'm cracking up". Others report "things are falling down around me and I can do very little about it". if this sounds familiar then perhaps it would be good for you to talk this over.
I have a wide range of experience working with clients from 11 years old up to some of the most elderly members of our community. I have worked with a wide variety of clients with issues such as anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, bereavement, relationship difficulties, unemployment, work related issues, self esteem, bullying, body image, self confidence and anger issues.
I am registered with BUPA and therefore available to provide counselling to those who have private medical insurance with BUPA.
I believe the relationship between client and therapist is the key in any therapeutic work and this is the main reason why I offer the initial session at a reduced rate. If the relationship isn't going to work then it is very unlikely the therapy will have any positive impact for you as the client. In the initial session we can explore what has brought you to counselling, we can look at what you would like to achieve and it gives me the chance to find out a bit more about you and the issues you would like to bring to the counselling room. If I don't think I am the most suitable therapist to meet your needs I will discuss this with you and give you choices. We can agree a way of working and you will be involved in every aspect of your therapy.
I am flexible around appointment times and venues and therefore happy to discuss this with you further.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have been trained as an Integrative therapist which allows me to call upon a range of methods and approaches to meet your needs. I have been practising full time since 2008 and to date have around 1800 hours of clinical practice - all clinically supervised. I use a wide range of approaches depending on client need. For example if the main issue is bereavement I may use a person centred approach, however if the main issue is anxiety I may decide to adopt a CBT approach. I have several years experience working with families and individuals bereaved by suicide as well as clients who have survived a suicide attempt.
A large part of my work has been in working with clients following the break up of a relationship. This of course can have a big impact on individuals and families with issues of anxiety, self esteem, self worth, trust etc coming up. This can be addressed in counselling.
I have experience in working in schools with individuals and groups and with groups in community settings.
I also have experience as a telephone counsellor and should you find that you cannot make it to the counselling session to see me we can explore the option of you receiving telephone support.
I have vast experience working in groups and can design and deliver a programme that will meet your requirements.
