Hi there and thank you for visiting my profile. I appreciate that taking the first steps to the counselling process isn't always easy - so please be reassured that I am more than happy for you to email or contact me for any further information that you require.
I view life as a journey. A journey into the unknown - both exciting and happy yet sometimes scary, stressful or sad. None of us have a crystal ball or the ability to know how we will feel or react in any situation - but most of us have an expectation of ourselves to behave in a certain way, which can create disappointment, feelings of failure and low self esteem. It is with all of this in mind that the past can create guilt and regret and the future can create fear and anxiety. The aim in counselling is for you to recognise what is happening for you right now, how your feelings may be influenced by any past issues and how you can move forwards into a brighter future.
Relationships play a huge part in this. Our whole lives are based around relationships with partners, children, parents, friends, colleagues to name a few. When these relationships change or become strained we can find ourselves searching for meaning and direction. It is important to recognise that our deepest emotions and feelings are sometimes a mystery to us, or can seem so dark that we struggle to acknowledge or accept them ourselves - let alone disclose and discuss them with a stranger. This is why I approach the counselling process and individual clients with complete non-judgemental respect, empathy and confidentiality, fostering a therapeutic environment of mutual trust and confidence at all times.
I have a long history in the medical & cancer nursing profession and am passionate about the emotional & psychological welfare of the people whom I care for. It is with this passion that I decided 7 years ago to train as a counsellor and set up in practice from home. Counselling, nursing & my daughter are the 3 greatest privileges in my life and it is an honour to be entrusted with a persons deepest and sometimes darkest thoughts and feelings. This alongside life's ups & downs & my varied life experiences helps me to provide a comfortable, caring and knowledgable environment conducive to helping clients feel free enough to share their feelings and to recognise & achieve their goals.
some of the common issues I help people to work through are anxiety disorders, depression, family dynamics/issues, relationship problems, abuse, terminal illness, bereavement and loss, body image issues, phobias, general sadness, low self esteem & confidence issues.
Training, qualifications & experience
• Advanced diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling (with distinction)

I work using an integrative approach to counselling which means that I can tailor any responses and interactions and interventions to the individual client and their presenting needs. I use a person centred approach to all interaction within counselling, always promoting the clients needs for confidentiality, empathy, genuine care and anon-judgemental acceptance.
professional support & advice in counselling is essential for many reasons - none more so than client & therapist safety, professional development & for keeping current & up to date. I undertake regular supervision at least 1.5 contact hours per month plus telephone support if/when required.
i currently volunteer at the local secondary school providing counselling and support for teenagers with self esteem, anxiety & bereavement needs amongst others.
